NOTE: Some sources have the date as: 130 - 100 B.C.

Other sources state this could be an apparition of comet Halley which was observed in August, 87 to 86 B.C. Halley's comet was observed to get faint and then disappear in the constellation of Pegasus, which might be the horse's head and star found on the obverse.

Back of the 1940 dime. The symbol in the middle is a fasces juxtaposed with an olive branch, which was intended to symbolize America's readiness for war, combined with its desire for peace; it was only later that it was adopted officially by Mussolini's Fascist Party.

JFK design half-dollar, from my Grandfather's coin collection. Back when they were still actually mostly silver, instead of the modern copper-nickel clad composition. According to Wikipedia, 1964 was the first year these were issued ( authorized by Congress just over a month after Kennedy's assassination ), and more were minted that year than in all sixteen years of the previous Benjamin Franklin design put together. Wikipedia also says because people hoarded them, they were hardly ever circulated, but it's clear from the wear that this one saw at least some actual use as money.
