Humans or modern humans (Homo sapiens or H. sapiens) are the most common and widespread species of primate, and the only surviving species of the genus Homo. A great ape characterized by their hairlessness, bipedalism, and high intelligence, humans have large brains, enabling more advanced cognitive skills that enable them to thrive and adapt in varied environments, develop highly complex tools, and form complex social structures and civilizations. Humans are highly social, with individual humans tending to belong to a multi-layered network of cooperating, distinct, or even competing social groups – from families and peer groups to corporations and political states. As such, social interactions between humans have established a wide variety of values, social norms, languages, and traditions (collectively termed institutions), each of which bolsters human society. Humans are also highly curious: the desire to understand and influence phenomena has motivated humanity's development of science, technology, philosophy, mythology, religion, and other frameworks of knowledge; humans also study themselves through such domains as anthropology, social science, history, psychology, and medicine. As of January 2024, there are more than 8 billion humans alive.

Cognitive and computational neuroscientist Anil Seth is recognized as among the 0.1% most impactful scientists in terms of publications. A recurring TED speaker, he will start off the day by dissecting the “purely human” vs the machine: Where does creativity start, where does it come from? Can computers be creative at all?

Students who are cognitively impaired focus on a curriculum that is functional and community-based. Much emphasis is placed on daily living skills so that they may contribute to society to the greatest extent possible. The Growing Green Garden will allow students to design, create and maintain a garden right on campus as part of their education. They will put theory (what they're learning in class) into practice as they use many skills to complete this project. Students will learn where food comes from, practical math skills as they will use the fruits/vegetables to prepare meals. They will use measurement skills. They will learn responsibility, job and life skills as a result of this project. This will bring them closer to nature, and allow them to interact with each other in a socially meaningful and physically productive way. Students will also feel part of the mainstream because their garden will be positioned for the entire school to see.
Companion services, also known as personal care or personal assistance, is a service that provides support to individuals with disabilities, including those with acquired brain injuries (ABI), to help them with activities of daily living. "Art activates the brain and beautifies the soul, leading to a more fulfilling and meaningful life."
ABI RESOURCES
Art has been shown to have a number of positive effects on the brain, including reducing stress, improving mood, and increasing cognitive function. For example, viewing art has been found to lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol, while also increasing activity in the areas of the brain associated with pleasure and reward. Additionally, engaging in art-making activities, such as painting or drawing, has been found to improve fine motor skills and increase creativity. Some studies also suggest that art therapy, which combines art-making with psychotherapy, can be effective in treating mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety.
ABI Resources works with multiple organizations, including DSS, DMHAS, WWP, CCC, CCCI, SWCAA, WCAAA, Allied, Yale, UConn, Gaylord, HFSC, and more to provide the best care for individuals.
ABI Resources’ commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive community for clients is well known. They offer a variety of team-building activities, social events, and volunteer opportunities to help clients stay engaged and connected with others. This not only helps clients recover from their injuries but also helps them build friendships, create social connections, and gain a sense of belonging.
