. Common medications include the beta blockers metoprolol (brand names Toprol XL, Lopressor), atenolol (Tenormin), carvedilol (Coreg), etc. Others include digoxin, diltiazem (Cardizem, Cartia), which just like the beta blockers are primarily used to slow rapid heart rates.

COLOUR: COGNITIVE BRAIN PREDICTION VERSUS VISUAL PERCEPTION/PHOTOGRAPHICAL DOCUMENTATION

The English neuropsychologist Chris Frith tells us that in our brain the “true” colour of a given object (=as reflected when the object is illuminated with white light) to such a degree is predicted by prior experience , that coloured light falling on the object will not disturb our actual perception of that true colour. If a (red) tomato is illuminated with blue light,” it can´t reflect any red light, so does it now look blue? No. We still perceive it as red”, he asserts in his book MAKING UP THE MIND. How the Brain Creates our Mental World. (Blackwell Publishing, Malden, Oxford and Carlton, 2007, p. 132). This assertion is wrong; or better: what it claims is only the case, when the person looking at the tomato is convinced in advance that the brain, not the eye, is telling the truth. Our eyes certainly do not see a tomato as being red in blue light. To them it will appear brown in pale blue light and black in deep blue light. What they see is (almost) identical with the eye-like evidence of photography shown in my little photo experiment here.

Cognitive enrichment - novel toys and food items that present mental challenges.

Give rabbits small cardboard boxes or toilet tubes stuffed with treats. Provide several toys to avoid food aggression among rabbits.

Borrowing terms from the cognitive and computer sciences, Liquid State Machine usually describes a soup of connected nodes, a situation with inputs, nonlinear functions and outputs which computes something or assists in its computation.

In this instance, the performance space becomes the computational soup bucket, an experimental Space-Noise-Continuum based on the connections between the plentiful nodes of both the kinetic-electromagnetic-noise apparatus of Martin Howse and the analogue/digital projection-machines of Wolfgang Spahn.

The performance begins with the subtle influence across these two distinct systems, arriving at an ultimate feedback between light (waves) and sound. LSM presents a play with transformations between distinct physical system domains.

The Cognitive Revolution Symposium took the Mental Work art-science exhibition as a starting point for reflection on the emergent future of human-machine interaction, focusing on promoting a culture of responsibility within the communities at the forefront of this revolution.

The symposium convened experts from BCI research, AI, neuroscience, ethics, international security, policy, social science, human rights, education, design, and communication, with two objectives: 1) Identifying and prioritizing ethical, social, and security dilemmas around the Cognitive Revolution; and 2)

Envisioning strategies to promote a culture of responsibility around those dilemmas.

The CGI Conference brings together classroom teachers, administrators, researchers, and professional developers from across the country. Educators develop and extend their understanding of CGI, learn about the latest research advances in CGI, and share about the impact CGI has on mathematics learning in PreK-6 classrooms.

I am not so good with video, but there was just no other way to show the awesome capabilities of the ROBOT COCKROACH (or "Hexbug") that arrived from Japan today.

I expect I will come home later and find the real cockroaches at war with it...

The CPT is a standardized performance-based assessment initially developed as a research instrument for baseline and serial measurements of occupational performance.

Common daily activities are used to measure working memory and executive control function that underlie occupational performance and behavior. The CPT is used to explain and predict the client's capacity to function in various contexts and to guide intervention plans, as well as to measure and track the severity of a cognitive-functional disability such as with Alzheimer's disease.

CPT:

Can be used with a variety of diagnostic groups

Predicts the client's capacity and needs in Instrumental and Basic Activities of Daily Living

Tracks changes over time (stability vs. decline or improved function)

Consists of seven sub-tasks for which the information processing requirements are systematically varied to assess ordinal levels

Sub-task props vary in complexity and include distracter props for the measurement technique

Components for sub-tasks Medbox, Shop, Wash, and Toast (except the toaster) are included

Sub-tasks Phone, Dress, and Travel are location specific with instructions for props and set-up included in the manual

CPT empirical evidence and psychometric properties from NIA longitudinal studies are included in the manual

the forensic psychologists principle recommendation is that ,Bryce be adjudicated in the juvenile justice system because of the issues discussed previously in this report. He does not and cannot cognitively function as an adult and it would be at odds with reality, and with current scientific research in child development to treat him as if he could.

As his mother I want to know why didn't the defense attorneys present my childs defense???? Bryce's father hired the lawyer, I was left out 90% of the time. Was this lawyers client Bryce? Or was Bryce's father the client? I want to know!

The Dynamic LOTCA™ is a series of cognitive tests that enables a therapist to evaluate clients with neurological deficits in order to obtain a detailed cognitive profile, enabling intervention planning for management and maintenance. DLOTCA™ builds off the research used to develop the original LOTCA™ series and incorporates a dynamic component providing the ability to measure learning potential and recognize thinking strategies through the use of mediation. In addition, it enables the therapist to identify the level of awareness the client has to his/her condition and cognitive disability.

DLOTCA™. Designed to be used with clients aged 18-69 years old. It consists of 28 subtests in 7 cognitive areas: Orientation, Awareness, Visual Perception, Spatial Perception, Praxis, Visuomotor Construction and Thinking Operations.

Each version was designed to provide standardized testing procedures and established norms for systematic data collection in cognitive assessment. Published studies are available upon request.

A Conversation Between Aaron T. Beck, M.D. and Glen O. Gabbard, M.D.” Moderated by APA President, John M. Oldham, M.D.Published research on psychotherapy has increasingly demonstrated its effectiveness as an evidence-based treatment for many psychiatric disorders, in categories ranging from mood and anxiety disorders to personality disorders. But psychotherapy, even “manualized,” standardized psychotherapy, comes in many varieties. Not uncommonly, adherents to one form of psychotherapy or another advocate for its unique effectiveness, as if the field is a racetrack where there is only one winner. In this spirit, the most frequent “either/or” comparison is between cognitive therapy and psychodynamic therapy, often viewed as radically different treatment approaches.A rare opportunity will be presented in a unique Opening Session event at the Annual Meeting of the American Psychiatric Association in May, 2012, in which two masters of psychotherapy will discuss the commonalities and differences between these two well-established forms of treatment. Without powerpoints and without scripts, Drs. Aaron Beck and Glen Gabbard will take their seats for an informal armchair conversation about these different yet overlapping forms of psychotherapy.

Teaching in the pre and primary sector can be a bit of challenge for the early educators as it requires continuous upgradation in a professional competitive environment. But having a grip over the cognitive learning model is sure to boost your career and benefit young learners in their learning processes as well.
