RES P 93.5T838 2006

In corporate and government bureaucracies, the standard method for making a presentation is to talk about a list of points organized onto slides projected up on the wall. For many years, overhead projectors lit up transparencies, and slide projectors showed high-resolution 35mm slides. Now "slideware" computer programs for presentations are nearly everywhere. Early in the 21st century, several hundred million copies of Microsoft PowerPoint were turning out trillions of slides each year. What is the problem with PowerPoint? And how can we improve our presentations?

To disturb or not to disturb ourselves further - that is the answer to life's infinite questions. (via Twitter twitter.com/kimfishercbt/status/719223024705265669)

This is an particle board [aka masonite] of 11" * 11". The size of board can be varied according to the individual need. To make this board wood can also be used, however masonite is considerably cheaper. The cut masonite is alos available at some hardwear stores or you can ask someone to cut the piece of masonite or wood for you. Mark the horizontal and vertical lines 1 inch apart from each other to have marks before start drilling.

In a way, the cognitive topography of an insomniac mind resembles the physical geography of a highly intricate labyrinth. The dead-awake, once lured by the glamor of the enticing gates at the entrance, half-enchanted, half-conscious, legs through it. Strengthened with a sense of senseless stoutness, she ceaselessly roams from one alley to another, eventually loses her sense of direction, hits dead-ends but nonetheless washed off by an all-too-human drive strives to drag herself to the center. She witnesses, day after day, the first rays of the swelling sun forcing their way through the sealed curtains. At this moment, for a few minutes, in insomniac terms, a fog of frenzied inertia starts to ooze out of the walls of the labyrinth, at one and the same time paralyzing and indiscriminately condemning to silence all that dares to appear on its way. No one should be deceived by this stranded illusion. After all, it was not only the mysterious gates that tickled the curiosity of the morbid interrogator residing in her so hard that the vibrations spreading from the violent laughter of this dominant tenant was about to destroy her one and only abode. When all is said and done, the role played by her vanity coupled with the desire to know what laid at the center of the labyrinth cannot be overlooked. Lack of rationality was not what had instigated this wild goose chase. As the chase to reach the center accelerates at a reeling rate, matter-of-factly, her reflection glimpsing back from the mirror smirks and spits back. And vanishes. What a vain, swaggering pursuit of something which does not exist. Which never existed. Indeed, in all likelihood, it was in the first place nothing but a telltale, a fanciful fabrication of deceitful minds intended to dull and thereby inveigle people into their labyrinth, a fairytale which is supposed to culminate in a satisfying, peaceful sleep. Frustration creeps in as finding the way out alive appears to be nothing but a dream, an impossible prospect for the one who can no longer fall asleep nor daydream...

Math Lessons to Build Kids’ Cognitive and Reasoning Skills

How Can Math Lessons Nurture Kids’ Logical and Intellectual Capabilities?

For children to grow up learning how to express and communicate effectively, they must learn and experience how to deliver their thoughts clearly, think critically, and satisfy their curiosity as they develop as a person.

Integrating these in education such as math lessons—already a generally challenging subject—through activities that stimulate the mind will increase their abilities and shape their character especially when supported by their loving parents.

Here are a few straightforward and effective ways math lessons can boost your child's cognitive and critical thinking skills:

1. Encourage your child to answer problems on their own

Give leeway for intellectual freedom by stepping back so they could analyze and figure out multiple solutions to solve challenges by themselves. This will practice logical thinking abilities so they can grow to be assertive and quick problem solvers.

2. Motivate them to think outside the box and be creative

Ask leading questions starting with: “what if” or “how about.” Not only will this build their empathy by

imagining themselves in other people’s shoes and situations but also gain foresight—to think of multiple possible outcomes from one scenario.

3. Gamify their math exercises

Try to look for creative mind puzzles or visual game exercises and play them together! If done continuously, their minds can get used to critical thinking—a skill crucial for children to grow with better situational awareness and analysis of cause and effect.

4. Keep your child physically active

Get them moving! Even stretching, casually dancing to music, or a simple exercise routine after class will contribute to a positive mental state. Getting physically active will also induce body chemicals that trigger an optimistic and energizing outlook on life.

5. Make learning comfortable and unintimidating

Create a positive learning experience under a stress-free environment so they could focus on learning effectively without tension or misguided expectations. This is a practice Izumi’s teachers emulate— patiently guiding and motivating students to perform their best and excel.

The CGI Conference brings together classroom teachers, administrators, researchers, and professional developers from across the country. Educators develop and extend their understanding of CGI, learn about the latest research advances in CGI, and share about the impact CGI has on mathematics learning in PreK-6 classrooms.

The cognitive function of the human brain forms what is widely accepted as being the human condition. It is not the way in which we act but the reasons behind why we act in the way that we do that has been the central focus for my work over the past twelve months. By making pieces that embrace distortion by introducing variables such as light and geometry; they create reflections and shadows that challenge the mind of the viewer to determine the true shapes and colours within the picture plane thus unveiling the true message.

By embracing a small number of variables with elements of minimalism and expressionism, promotes an instant emotional connection with the viewer drawing both on the conscious and subconscious mind. Inspiration for this work has been derived from artists such as Dan Flavin, Mark Handforth, and Tobias Spichtig, with mark making influences from the likes of Shirazeh Houshiary and Gerhard Richter; resulting in work having bold contrasting colours against a more natural material or colour backdrop. The overlaying subject matter of the work embraces familiarity focusing on music, nightlife and fashion, all of which are easily recognizable for the viewer. This subject matter is consciously recognized but it is the work of the subconscious that keeps the viewer tied to the work with deeper messages being held within the piece itself unlocking hitherto hidden truths.
