One Nikon SB-800 Speedlights diffussed with a shoot thru umbrella from camera right, triggered with a Pocket Wizard radio slave (expensive like Heck, here in Malaysia!), another SB-800 in SU-4 mode, aimed at the cupboard at the back.
The idea is control, the cupboard looks like it wasnt lit up by another flash at all, no?
A clue: there's a wee bit of flare on top left corner portion of the pic :D
That also means, I didnt have total control also, isnt it? *grins*
I've uploaded this picture to show the people who were with me today at Chimneyville Crafts Festival that the bench as coffee table turned out great. Or at least I think it did. I think it's perfect. (I regret that I didn't flip love seat cushions to put dog side down before taking the picture.)
This is also an experiment with uploading a picture from the new and very different computer. I miss Lview! I have no idea what software allowed me to view this picture. Since I rarely edit a picture in any way before adding it to Flickr, knowing anything about the software didn't matter. It will matter, though, when I start dealing with tombstone pictures for Find-a-Grave since resizing and cropping is necessary.
Found this old coffee table the other day. My grandmother and I used to sit on her balcony during warm summer evenings drinking coffee and whisky from this table. They didnt use the balcony it was closed off so one day when she was out I opened it up and put the table there.

When it's sunny, we like to push the table to the window and have as much of the woolen carpet as possible for us!
Stack of old books on a coffee table at Ian's mom's house. Loved photographing these--the colors, shallow DOF, natural lighting. I'm learning a lot about myself through this project. It actually makes perfect sense that I prefer close-up, detailed shots. It's kind of my job to focus on the details (I'm a copy editor).
GONE - This industrial-style coffee table is both fun and practical. The low height works well with how we live now--you can sit on the floor with your iPad on the table when you're alone. When company comes, everyone can set their drinks down and loll around on the floor as well as the couch. Those are always the best parties!

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN - Genuine mid-century side table from the UK, conveniently foldable and incredibly well-preserved. Just what we need in our smaller Singaporean interiors!

The wood for this piece was sourced from a Lumber Mill that rescues wood felled from "The URBAN JUNGLE"-
and allows folks like me to give it a nice life indoors!
Finding a decent metal polisher to work with ,has been worthy of a blog entry (been a while- I know!)- but through the resourcefulness of my database - I was able to do it!
And- I'm quite pleased with the results (if I don't say so myself!!)

GONE - We sanded this teak table down to the grain and left the wood its natural, pale color. Then we replaced the top with a goes-with-everything black laminate. Now it's got some serious sex appeal.

The top of my 20th century Chinese coffee table with intricate mother-of-pearl inlaid designs, in diffused light from a blue sky. The diffused light may bot have been best to show the multi-directional variable-shine qualities of the mother-of-pearl. I will try to experiment with other types of lighting. The mother-of-pearl inlays are magnificent when seen with the naked eye.
