Toda people are a Dravidian ethnic group who live in the Nilgiri Mountains of Tamil Nadu. Before the 18th century and British colonisation, the Toda coexisted locally with other ethnic communities, including the Kota, Badaga and Kurumba, in a loose caste-like society, in which the Toda were the top ranking. During the 20th century, the Toda population has hovered in the range 700 to 900. Although an insignificant fraction of the large population of India, since the early 19th century the Toda have attracted "a most disproportionate amount of attention because of their ethnological aberrancy" and "their unlikeness to their neighbours in appearance, manners, and customs." The study of their culture by anthropologists and linguists proved significant in developing the fields of social anthropology and ethnomusicology.
The Toda traditionally live in settlements called mund, consisting of three to seven small thatched houses, constructed in the shape of half-barrels and located across the slopes of the pasture, on which they keep domestic buffalo. Their economy was pastoral, based on the buffalo, which dairy products they traded with neighbouring peoples of the Nilgiri Hills. Toda religion features the sacred buffalo; consequently, rituals are performed for all dairy activities as well as for the ordination of dairymen-priests. The religious and funerary rites provide the social context in which complex poetic songs about the cult of the buffalo are composed and chanted.
Fraternal polyandry in traditional Toda society was fairly common; however, this practice has now been totally abandoned, as has female infanticide. During the last quarter of the 20th century, some Toda pasture land was lost due to outsiders using it for agriculture or afforestation by the State Government of Tamil Nadu. This has threatened to undermine Toda culture by greatly diminishing the buffalo herds. Since the early 21st century, Toda society and culture have been the focus of an international effort at culturally sensitive environmental restoration. The Toda lands are now a part of The Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO-designated International Biosphere Reserve; their territory is declared UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Can AI "photos" coexist with the "traditional" imagery? Who are we kidding. Can't imagine a Hollywood movie without AI. too many to mention
Do you feel "betrayed" when (if) you found out a photo was an Artificial "photo"... are we getting used to being "lied" too?
Things are likely to become yet more complex as use of artificial intelligence by artists becomes more widespread, and as the machines get better at producing creative works, further blurring the distinction between artwork that is made by a human and that made by a computer.

Two wonderful rosebushes coexist in a large clay flowerpot in my front garden and bloom most of the year...
I love the way the flowers accent an contrast with the Old Tucson style brick wall and wrought ironwork...

NIGHT GAMES WITH THE LIGHT
When light and darkness coexist in symbiosis.
During the time of the year when the night lasts longer than the day, those of us who want to continue enjoying our photo-addiction ally ourselves with the night and look for the lights that cohabit with it.
In my case, accustomed to photograph the reflections during the day in the fishing port, when the night came, the luminous reflections of the streetlights on the dark sea caught my attention, and I began to explore the new situation some years ago.
Some images have been obtained using the ICM technique, others using low shutter speed and taking advantage of the movement of the water. Other times the combination of camera and water movements produces surprising effects. What is actually seen is the trail or trail of light floating on the water.
Was out riding my bicycle this morning beneath a brilliant blue sky on a crisp Sunday morning. The sky was startlingly clear and the bright sunshine warmed both my skin and should with a feeling of hope and optimism. Yet I was struck by the contrast of the utter hellscape at ground level. As far as the eye could see was nothing but the twisted remains of last year's crop fields. The remaining cornstalks jutting up like old bones...a desaturated field of visual disharmony. Sort of a crash site of nature. All of this about to give way to the verdant greens of the impending growing season. Yet in these moments the new and old coexist. The cycle of life grinds on.

In this series of photographs, I returned to the beaches around Taormina, thus concluding a "photographic triad" dedicated to beach photography, encouraged by my life and residence near the sea since I was a boy; I post photographs that speak of serenity, joie de vivre, love in the broadest sense, featuring beachgoers of all ages, whose habits (often) are consolidated by living in sun-kissed latitudes. And yet, I ask myself, every day in the world we witness immense tragedies, caused not by natural disasters (often unpredictable), but by the sinister and nefarious will of man, and so I ask myself if it is right to post images that speak of a reality that almost seems to come "from another planet (sigh!)”, where coexistence, a sense of brotherhood, Love, coexist peacefully among people (in this case... often) in bathing suits :-) .... The next "photographic cycle" will be dedicated to several photographic series that "wait to see the light - again -", having as their theme the traditional religious popular festivals that characterize our island of Sicily.

By the way, did you notice that it's a lion? Having a nap, and soooo "fluffy"

I think I'm drowning
Asphyxiated
I want to break the spell
That you've created
You're something beautiful
A contradiction
I want to play the game
I want the friction
You will be
The death of me
Yeah, you will be
The death of me
Bury it
I won't let you bury it
I won't let you smother it
I won't let you murder it
Our time is running out
And our time is running out
You can't push it underground
We can't stop it screaming out
I wanted freedom
But I'm restricted
I tried to give you up
But I'm addicted
Now that you know I'm trapped
Sense of elation
You'll never dream of breaking this fixation
You will squeeze the life out of me
Bury it
I won't let you bury it
I won't let you smother it
I won't let you murder it
Our time is running out
And our time is running out
You can't push it underground
We can't stop it screaming out
How did it come to this
You will suck the life out of me
Bury it
I won't let you bury it
I won't let you smother it
I won't let you murder it
Our time is running out
And our time is running out
You can't push it underground
We can't stop it screaming out
How did it come to this

Nasturtiums add a little color to a drab fence line along the California coast.
On another note, my new pet skunk looks like he's alive and well, and content to munch upon the copious grub population behind my back shed. Coexist.
Happy Fence Friday everyone.

The boat in the back might well have coexisted years ago with the antique car in the front. I added the bale of hay to indicate there might have been a horse around there someplace too. The ship was on display at the Mystic Seaport Museum in Connecticut. The car was on display at one of the Power Authority Antique Car Shows a few years ago.

"Don Reserve showcases how remnant vegetation can coexist with suburban development and still maintain a healthy and diverse ecosystem” is the motto of the Devonport City Council Fire Management Plan – Don Reserve. The plan discusses the ways in which fire and burning can be used to maintain native plants and to control ‘exotics’ in the natural reserve on the westside of Devonport along the Don River emptying out into Bass Strait. One of the many exotics targeted in the plan is Banana Passionfruit, Passiflora mollissima.
This Passiflora was described early in the nineteenth century under the name Tacsonia mollissima, hailing from Bolivia and Venezuela. Later it became useful because its woody stalk is good for grafting onto it other kinds of Passionfruits. So soon it became popular the world ‘round; moreover, if you like pink this is your flower!. But in New Zealand and Australia (incl. Tasmania) and elsewhere, too, it’s escaped the confines of agriculture, horticulture and gardens. Free in ‘nature’, its vines readily smother native plants and forest regrowth after fires or floods.
Pottering along the Don River the other day, I saw a whole creep of this non-native plant now, it seems, much at home here and perhaps even ‘naturalised’.
PS I hope to get back to commenting etc. in a day or so. Please bear with me... Thanks.

RENARD SAUVAGE
WILD FOX
The wild fox is a fascinating and emblematic animal. He is known for his cunning and his ability to adapt to the environment. Wild foxes are usually reddish in color with shades of brown, but they can also be gray or silver. Their fur is thick and soft and their bushy tail is long and pointed. They are very good climbers and can jump very high. They are nocturnal and feed mainly on small rodents, insects and birds. Wild foxes are intelligent and adaptable creatures that can be found all over the world.
As omnivorous mammals, wild foxes have a varied diet, which includes not only rodents, insects and birds, but also fruits and vegetables. This allows them to adapt to various environments, from forests to urban areas. Their discreet and suspicious nature also allows them to coexist with man.
Wild foxes have excellent hearing and a very developed sense of smell, which helps them detect prey and dangers. They are also known for their distinct vocalizations, which vary from yelp to howling.
Foxes usually live as a couple or small family groups and are territorial. During the breeding season, they dig burrows to house their young, called fox cubs. Parents jointly raise fox cubs, which stay with them for about six months before becoming independent.
Arachtober 2 - This struck me as an odd couple, but the male Hammock Spider and the female White Micrathena seemed to be coexisting peacefully.
The St. Pierre Cathedral is a cathedral in Geneva, Switzerland, today belonging to the Reformed Protestant Church of Geneva. It is known as the adopted home church of John Calvin, one of the leaders of the Protestant Reformation. Inside the church is a wooden chair used by Calvin.
It was begun under Arducius de Faucigny, the prince-bishop of the Diocese of Geneva, around 1160. It was originally built in Romanesque style and was completed a hundred years later in Gothic style. A Neo-Classical main facade was added in the 18th century.
The area beneath the Cathedral has recently been excavated extensively, revealing a history of the site dating back to the time of the Roman Empire.[citation needed] From the 8th to 10th centuries it was one of three cathedrals to coexist on the site. The present building has grown from a cathedral devoted to ecclesiastical use and an early Christian funerary cult; the other two structures, subsumed in the 12th century by the growth of the surviving building, were apparently for different uses, one for public sacraments and the other for church teachings.
The German painter Konrad Witz painted an altarpiece, the so-called St. Peter Altarpiece, for the Cathedral in 1444, now in the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire, Geneva, which contains his composition, the Miraculous Draught of Fishes.
Currently, every summer a German Protestant minister is present, making it possible to hold bilingual services and meetings of both German and French Protestant worshippers. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Pierre_Cathedral
