The whole family spears and husks coconuts, throwing the husks in a pile like this. This pile is from a partial day's work. Further processing elsewhere of this family's husked coconuts yields coconut water, shredded coconut, coconut milk, dried husks for bowls, and fiber for weaving. This fmaily processes about 1000 coconuts a day, earning about US$18/day.

One area of the Mekong grows and processes 90% of the country's coconut. this is a family-run processing plant, typical of most in the area.
