Wheal Coates is a former tin mine. ‘Wheal’ is Cornish for ‘place of work’. The site was worked for centuries but the surviving buildings date from the 1870s when deep underground mining began at the site and were stabilised and preserved in 1986.

There are three engine houses that formerly housed Cornish engines. Towanroath Pumping Engine House (1872) was used to pump water from the adjacent 600 ft Towanroath shaft. Whim Engine House was added in 1880 to crush ore for processing. A calciner dating from 1910–1913 roasted the tin to remove impurities such as arsenic.

A magnificent female Northwestern wolf, in her thick winter coat, standing on the highest ground, quietly surveying all around her.

Her haunches and shoulders are very powerful and muscular and the power in her body as she lopes through the woods can be clearly see. She is magnificent.

It was raining hard but it did not bother her in the least.

She is used to minus 40 deg C, so a bit of sleet just above freezing is a balmy day for her.

The DSLR's got water damage so it's been sent to the Nikon hospital. The guys at the camera shop took a look and shook their heads: they reckon that to fix it will cost more than the camera :-( We'll see...

So, it's back to the iPhone for a bit

Mature in lovely long red leather coat

Decided to seek some attention on my visit to Leominster. Just about to leave.

This coat has been left hanging (complete with broach) for quite some time I imagine.

Found in a lovely old abandoned home. This was not staged and was exactly as we found it.
