Dutch coaster Kitty photographed in 1949 (Skyfotos). The ship was built in 1943 by Redpath, Brown & Co. (Glasgow) for the Royal Navy. In 1948 it was converted to a cargo ship. N.V. Rederij `Kitty` (Amsterdam) owned the ship in 1949 - 1954. My colorization of an image in the Maritime Museum of Sweden archive.
This is the famous roller coaster road on Dalton Highway, Alaska. It was unlike any other road I had seen before. The slope was steep and I was lucky to have captured a truck passing by and include it for scale. The peak autumn fall colors were also a bonus!
TEMPORARY is the challenge for Monday 22 April 2019, group our daily challenge.

A half mile ago, my GPS told me to turn right at the next street but when I got there this was my view. I pulled over at the intersection instead, grabbed my camera and got in the middle of the road to capture this scene.
I am not suggesting anyone do this, but, I'm thinkin' if you drove at a high rate of speed, it just might feel like a roller coaster. Weeeeeeeeee!!
Have a wonderful week everyone :-)

After Southampton our June 2021 adventure took us on towards Plymouth.
Seen in Bridport are a trio of First Hampshire & Dorset Jurassic Coaster-branded buses including Alexander Dennis Enviro400 33709 SN12AHX.
The New Waterway is always busy with sea ships and riverboats. In between them zigzags a ferry from one riverbank to the other. Almost touching the Ivan Kudryavtsev, it made me ponder how life on board would be. Does a coaster have a home? Or is it always on the go?
It looks fun to bike along Tessajara Ridge as the slopes just go up and down along the trail. I need to bring my bike here next time.
This trio is back in Albuquerque. The coaster is from the brew pub that Helen and John took us to the first time we met in person (an excellent new beginning). It represents one of Albuquerque's THIRTY-FIVE brew pubs! The beer was really good, as was the food from the food truck parked next to the pub. John gave me the coaster as a memory of the day. Thank you, John!
The blanket in the background is a horse blanket that I picked up on a previous trip. I thought the two went well together.
Coaster 635 has finished its run from San Diego to Oceanside, and is heading to the layover yard at Stuart Mesa for the day. Due to Covid-19, there are only 3 morning and 3 afternoon round trips a day of Coaster trains, utilizing only two sets of equipment.

A small motorized train that I built to run on the new roller coaster track system.
Video of it in action with an explanation of the design can be found on YouTube: youtu.be/ExyF1nLxKd8
Building instructions for the engine and chassis can be found on my website: jkbrickworks.com/roller-coaster-train
The AmTrak line runs between the Del Mar fairground and the San Dieguito lagoon. I captured this long exposure shot of the Coaster (a commuter train that runs between Oceanside and downtown San Diego) at dusk. The train's motion blur is due to the long exposure.
So, I combined basketry in newspaper scrolls with jutte strings to make these coasters. I still need to put them for 'test drive', but I think they'll work just fine!
Obviously, I haven't mastered yet the technique, but still, I think they look cute!
The Big Apple Coaster is a steel rollercoaster and travels through the property's interior and exterior. The coaster is 203 ft / 62 m high, has a maximum drop of 144 ft / 44 m, and reaches speeds up to 67 mph / 108 km/h.
I have always wanted to try some basketry. I love the effects, the patterns!
But as I don't have access to the natural materials, I tried something else that I like too: newspaper!

One of a pair of beaded owl coasters I have. No, I didn't make this, I purchased the pair several years ago.

This is a close up view of the tracks of the mountain roller coaster at the Snowbird Resort. I took this shot in the morning, before the ride was open. Later that day, Kellie and I rode it. Very thrilling, although I think my favorite part was the slow upward climb through the scenic and shady trees surrounding the track.
