THE INVASION OF CLERMONT-FERRAND
The first (two?) invasion wave(s) of the center of Clermont-Ferrand occured in the year 2000 and consisted 8 space invaders, 4 of them are still there (including 1 re-activation) and flashable.
In January 2016 Clermont-Ferrand was invaded again, the 3rd invasion wave took place:
"At the occasion of the screening of the very last version of the movie Art4Sspace at the Interntional Short Film Festival of Clermont-Ferrand, I have added 31 new creations to the city of the center of France. Among various themes, they refer to movies and cinema but also to what Clermont Ferrand is famous for : its gothic cathedrale, its volcanos, its Michelin factories and its Serge Gainsbourg street" (Invader)

Clermont-Ferrand
Clermont-Ferrand is a city and commune of France, in the Auvergne region. It is the prefecture (capital) of the Puy-de-Dôme department.
Clermont-Ferrand sits on the plain of Limagne in the Massif Central and is surrounded by a major industrial area. The city is famous for the chain of volcanoes, the Chaîne des Puys surrounding it. The famous dormant volcano Puy de Dôme (10 kilometres from the city) is one of the highest of these and well known for the telecommunication antennas that sit on its top and are visible from far away.
Clermont-Ferrand is also famous for hosting the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, one of the world's leading international festivals for short films, the Festival du Court Metrage de Clermont-Ferrand, as well as the corporate headquarters of Michelin, the global tire company created more than 100 years ago in the city.
Clermont-Ferrand's most famous public square is Place de Jaude, on which stands a grand statue of Vercingetorix sitting imperiously on a horse and holding a sword. The inscription reads: J'ai pris les armes pour la liberté de tous (I took up arms for the liberty of all). This statue was sculpted by Frédéric Bartholdi, who also created the Statue of Liberty.
The main railway station has connections to Paris and several regional destinations: Lyon, Saint-Étienne, Orléans, Bordeaux, Moulins, Le Puy-en-Velay, Limoges. The motorway A71 connects Clermont-Ferrand with Orléans and Bourges, the A72 with Saint-Étienne, the A75 with Montpellier and the A89 with Bordeaux. The airport offers mainly flights within France. There is a flight between Southampton and Clermont-Ferrand, operated by Flybe from May to October. Recently, Clermont-Ferrand was France's first city to get a new Translohr transit system, the Clermont-Ferrand Tramway, thereby linking the city's north and south neighbourhoods. The TGV will arrive in Auvergne after 2030. It will be one of the last regions to not have a TGV stop.

"On the road (again)..." is what Invader said on Instagram (Instagram - Invaderwashere...'on the road') when he was going to Clermont-Ferrand for a second "invasion wave" in this city in January 2016. For me, a plan for a roadtrip to this city in the Auvergne was born. Left Amsterdam early to be around 14h00 in the area of Clermont-Ferrand, a drive of more than 940 kilometers.
This photo is taken on the A1 (Autoroute du Nord) near Goyencourt, already more than 3 hours on my way to Clermont-Ferrand.
Roadtrip Amsterdam-Clermont-Ferrand
Left Amsterdam at 03h08 in the rain with a temperature of 8° C. Crossed the Belgium border after 113 kilometers at 04h12. And the Belge-French border at 05h43 after 263 kilometers. The lowest temperature was at the A1 where the temparature was only 1° C and the highest temperature was at the arrival in Clermont-Ferrand, 24° C.
On the way I flashed space invader PA_1141 near Centre Commercial Belle-Epine in Thiais (94) at 08h15 and continued on the A10 to Orléans. A coffeel stop at Aire de Limours-Janvry from 08h43 to 09h21, a fuel stop at Total at Aire d'Orléans Saran (gas price 1.39 /liter) at 10h10 after 620 kilometers.
Early lunch, late breakfast stop at McDo Saran from 10h29 to 10h55.

Arrived at hôtel Kyriad Clermont-Ferrand Centre in the Rue Bonnaubaud at 15h49 after driving 952,0 kilometers this day. Temperature 23° C and altitude +377 meters.
