Another Southern Butterfly.
Again this population has been seen mating, ovipositing, and caterpillars. It has to be breeding in NJ!
Another new butterfly for the butterfly garden. While there are usually lots of Clouded Sulphurs, this is the first Cloudless Sulphur I have seen. Another new one for the county checklist.
I haven't seen many butterflies this year. No evidence of Monarchs in the school garden at all. I had a few caterpillars at my home garden. I've seen gulf fritillaries at school but only a couple of caterpillars. I guess we weren't in the right weather pattern this year.
Cloudless Sulphur, (Phoebis sennae) nectaring Bottlebrush, 9/3/2013, Skidaway Island, Savannah, Ga Sparrow Field
A female Cloudless Sulphur (Phoebis sennae) on a Spanish Needles near the Choctawhatchee Bay on Eglin AFB, Florida.
Location: Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park, Millington, Tennessee.
I saw this Cloudless Sulphur butterfly along the Mississippi River at a windy time of day (the wind was keeping him hanging on to the plant). The first thing I noticed about this butterfly was its large size, as the sulphurs in my area (Wisconsin) are noticably smaller.
I believe this is a male Cloudless Sulphur butterfly. This one has more green tint than most I see. Photo taken on September 7, 2011 near Grapevine Lake in Texas. Large Size
A cloudless Thanksgiving Day sunset over the city. Brrrr, it felt a bit chilly out. Me and my family were still preparing to head to Stockton, CA for our family's annual Thanksgiving party. This year, the party was taking place at my cousin Melinda's place. Pic taken from around San Jose, CA. (Thursday around sunset, November 26, 2015; 4:38 p.m.)
Short-term weather update:
Freeze warnings in effect... Overnight lows were to range from 26 to 32 for many inland locations the next few evenings. Potential health impacts would occur for those who are exposed outside during overnight hours. Also, sensitive plants or animals can be severely impacted if precautions are not taken. A freeze warning means that sub-freezing temps are imminent or highly likely. These conditions would kill crops and other sensitive vegetation... keep warm, stay indoors! Protect tender plants by covering them with sheets or bring them indoors.
