Very rarely is it possible to climb above the cloudbase without getting through the clouds (which is prohibited). This time it seems to have been a little wave, an atmospheric resonance caused by hills on the ground, that gave me some lift between the clouds.
This photo acompanies an online travel diary that we wrote while travelling around the world for a year. The first part of the diary for this set (San Francisco) can be found here.
GW4BVE & G(W)3RMD activation of Manod Mawr GW/NW-035. The cloudbase wasn't far above the summit but it was certainly down on Snowdon where John G4YSS (GC0OOO/P) had been operating a couple of hours previously.
Taken from the sea front at Tywyn in Gwynedd looking towards Cerredigion. Across the bay is Aberystwyth. Have not seen a cloud formation like this in the 2 years we have lived here.

Spectecular trip with mostly low cloudbase and from time to time clear skies and our first distant sights on eastern Bhutan.

Large ticket halls seem to be a characteristic out in Acton: West Acton's similar hall straddles above the tracks and reminded me of Captain Scarlet's Cloudbase.

These grainy shots are not the best ever Reds shots, however!! They are a tribute to undoubtedly the best Aerobatic Display Team. The Reds performed at Belfast City on 4 October 2008 in a cloudbase around 1500feet in pouring rain. No one expected a display everyone was once again thrilled at the skill on display. Their guiding motto is ‘Eclat’ which means brilliance, and they proved that again.
