Looking southeast along the path on the south side of Buttermere. The low cloudbase has stolen the tops already and the skeletal trees are standing out against it. Enhanced contrast slightly and tweaked the channel histograms quite a bit in The GIMP.

crossed to the schanfigg valley above strelapass with the idea of flying to chur. but the SW headwind in the schanfigg was too much for me, so landed near st.peter.

Gliding at over 6000' towards the next obvious cloud right down the middle of Loch Laggan. Looking east towards the Creag Meagaidh hills middle distance on the left.
Very rarely is it possible to climb above the cloudbase without getting through the clouds (which is prohibited). This time it seems to have been a little wave, an atmospheric resonance caused by hills on the ground, that gave me some lift between the clouds.

GW4BVE & G(W)3RMD activation of Manod Mawr GW/NW-035. The cloudbase wasn't far above the summit but it was certainly down on Snowdon where John G4YSS (GC0OOO/P) had been operating a couple of hours previously.
Taken from the sea front at Tywyn in Gwynedd looking towards Cerredigion. Across the bay is Aberystwyth. Have not seen a cloud formation like this in the 2 years we have lived here.

THE WEATHER : Moderate to light snowfall yesterday morning petered out during the afternoon. Slight thaw of lying snow continuous since yesterday afternoon but generally 11cm snow depth remains this morning. Note very small diurnal temperature range with temperatures a fraction above freezing point. Today: Overcast with stratus cloud at 100m (cloudbase height data courtesy of Met Office). Visibility poor, approx 2500m, mist. Wind direction 070 deg ENE. Mean wind speed 4km/h with gusts to 7 km/h. Air temperature 0.4 deg C.Wind chill factor of 4 deg C so feeling very cold.
