Closeup of the 9 x 12" collage I did for JennyHoliday's "Bits and Pieces" swap. My partner loves vintage 1940s cottage plus vintage children's book illustrations. Left: wool felt with embroidery and vintage buttons. Right: her last name initial -- I wanted the initials to have the look of an initial in a children's book.

Woo hoo--a new flickr game: what is this thing? The first person with the correct answer will have immortality! Ok, you won't, but your name will live on for seconds.

"Dianthus barbatus, the sweet William, is a species of flowering plant in the family Caryophyllaceae, native to southern Europe and parts of Asia. It has become a popular ornamental garden plant. It is a herbaceous biennial or short-lived perennial plant growing to 13–92 cm tall, with flowers in a dense cluster of up to 30 at the top of the stems. Each flower is 2–3 cm diameter with five petals displaying serrated edges. Wild plants produce red flowers with a white base, but colours in cultivars range from white, pink, red, and purple to variegated patterns."

A bit oversharpened.

It is cold, damp, and dreary here in Michigan today. I thought I would post this today to remind myself that spring is on its way. :)

I welcome all critiques good or bad. That is the only way I will learn and become a better photographer.

My 6yo daughter is an expert at catching bugs (insects, whatever). She's been doing it for a long time, always very gently, and then allowing me to get a photo of it. :)

She had a lot of fun catching grasshoppers; they were a bit difficult, as she'd get close and then it would zip off suddenly, sort of flying/zooming about 3 feet away. But she was able to catch a few of them, and thankfully they sat still long enough for me to snag a few shots.
