De kleine ijsvogelvlinder is te vinden in vochtige loofbossen afgewisseld met ruige graslanden en bosranden met ligging op het zuiden. Bosranden met bloeiende struiken als braam en kamperfoelie, en met een geleidelijke overgang naar bos of grasland. De rupsen van de kleine ijsvogelvlinder hebben als waardplant het blad de kamperfoelie. De kleine ijsvogelvlinder komt in Nederland nog voor in Overijssel, de Achterhoek en Brabant.
Why is this tiny, colorful flower in the buttercup family called "Cursed Crowfoot"?
I was unaware that all buttercup flowers are potentially poisonous. The name of the poison is "protoamemonin". This Cursed Crowfoot member of the buttercup family is the most toxic of all buttercups. The chemical substance is released when the leaves or stems are broken or crushed, and it may cause a rash or blistering on exposed skin.
Fortunately, I have not tested the statement that it causes a rash or blistering of exposed skin. :-)

The peony or paeony is a flowering plant in the genus Paeonia, the only genus in the family Paeoniaceae. Peonies are native to Asia, Europe and Western North America. Scientists differ on the number of species that can be distinguished, ranging from 25 to 40, although the current consensus is 33 known species. The relationships between the species need to be further clarified.
Most are herbaceous perennial plants 0.25–1 metre (1–3 ft) tall, but some are woody shrubs 0.25–3.5 metres (1–11 ft) tall. They have compound, deeply lobed leaves and large, often fragrant flowers, in colors ranging from purple and pink to red, white or yellow, in late spring and early summer. Second pic of the ultra-rare and incredibly tiny, dainty, strange, and fabulous wild Calochortus monophyllus! I'm so proud of having found a few, they're only found in the northern Sierra Foothills!
