Closeup of a Royal Palace Prince daylily in my wife’s garden. I was struck by the near edges of the petals. They almost looked like they were made of metal.

all bought recently from whitechapel market, east london

i wasn't happy with yesterday's effort at making persimmon jam/sauce. it tasted ok but it was too thick, more like stewed fruit than a jam/sauce flic.kr/p/2rL7wX3

i recooked the jam/sauce with extra water and lemon juice

brought to the boil

added some more sugar

allowed to 'rolling boil' until satisfied with the result

decanted into jar

result much happier :)

ps i'm not recommending any of these cookery adventures. they suit my personal taste. photographing to encourage myself to eat more healthily ...

i've created a group www.flickr.com/groups/cooking_is_my_hobby/ to gather ideas and encourage myself to continue with healthy eating by learning from others if you're interested in cooking, sometimes or a lot, or enjoy the cooking of others, you're always welcome ...

Sometimes you don't need to go looking for the birds - they come to you!!!

I was surprised that this little Red-Browed Finch came so close during a shoot at Hunter Wetlands Centre (Shortland, NSW; Australia) a couple of days ago.

They're usually quite timid and flighty.

I did stay still and in the same spot for a little while capturing a White-cheeked Honeyeater (see previous post!); so he might have got used to me being there!

My 500mm f4L IS lens was tested in its close focusing ability - it is rated at 4.5m / 14.8 ft.

This bird must have been 14.8ft from the end of the lens!!!

You can see just how narrow the DOF is at this aperture this close!

Hope you like it!!

Thanks for any comments, views or favorites -much appreciated!!

Have a wonderful day and week ahead!!

I can't recall a more prolifically blooming spring. Walks have been a real restorative in grim times.
