But I held a seashell
Close to my ear
I listened
To the sound of the sea
It made me swear
An oath of secrecy
I couldn't tell a soul what it told me

A clever way to garden, especially in urban areas. Takes advantage of vertical space, with water pumps powered by the battery in our sky (aka - "Sun" or "El Sol"). The pumps take all the "waste" from the fishies that ends up being "food" for the plants that ends up being food for us primates.
Walmart and Sam’s Club locations use the super sandwich baling process to recycle 32 different materials, including aluminum cans, plastic bags, plastic bottles, office paper and paperback books. In 2009 alone, we recycled more than 1.3 million pounds of aluminum, 120 million pounds of plastics, 11.6 million pounds of mixed paper and 4.6 billion pounds of cardboard through this process.

Walmart’s company-wide goal is to create zero waste. In the U.S., Walmart sends items including polystyrene and icing buckets to its Return Centers to be recycled. In most cases the polystyrene is reused in poster frames for sale on Walmart shelves and the icing buckets are recycled.

Walmart’s company-wide goal is to create zero waste. Corrugated cardboard is bundled into bales and sent to paper mills to be recycled into new paper products. In 2009, Walmart and Sam’s Club recycled 4.6 billion pounds of cardboard.
In 2009, Walmart Central America increased the amount of plastic and cardboard it recycled by 10 percent. In doing this, we saved more than 248,000 trees and prevented the use of 19,300 barrels of oil.

This is what independence looks like - independence from oil and fossil fuels.
The Jay Heritage Center is committed to innovative education and environmental stewardship. So it was a smart choice to be sustainable and install a geothermal closed loop system in the 1838 Peter Augustus Jay House. And we made history doing it. The 1838 Peter Augustus Jay House is the 1st National Historic Landmark structure in Westchester with a geothermal system and the oldest (174 years old) NHL in New York State to have one.
Switching to geoethermal for heating and cooling is a terrific choice particularly for older buildings in that it helps preserve historic fabric and original design when the outdated inefficient systems are removed --original ceiling heights and air circulation patterns are restored. Our system is of course connected to newer MEPS that are more efficient too. From our standpoint, adaptive reuse is in some ways a new kind of architecture because designers are choosing to "build" with the embodied energy already contained and represented in these older structures.
The house has many other sustainable features including a new bathroom with low VOC paint, motion-activated sensors and recycled concrete tile. We do not use pesticides, and we are replanting native trees and grasses that are historic to the site.
This accomplishment is one that the JHC is extremely proud of as we serve to be a model for our community and other cultural and academic institutions. Preservation is green! And architecture doesn't have to be new to be sustainable.

"Intelligent Fashion, containing technology that can measure your health, and is still sustainable. My shirt keeps track of my heartbeat and respiration. So I can be more effective. I know there is a lot of technology in there, but I don’t feel it. The sensors are seamlessly laminated onto the fabric. It’s very comfortable."

This is a linear encoder based off of the AS5306 austria micro systems IC. It uses magnetic fields to be able to detect how far the magnet has moved. This is primarily going to be used for CNC systems to provide a cheap and easy closed loop system. The reason we do not use the regular linear encoder (optical) is this encoder does not care if debris gets onto the magnet as there is no line of sight limitation. Which is a very strong selling suit for CNC applications.

We love Earth Hour. We don't understand why anyone would want to keep their lights on all night when they've closed shop and gone home. We took a bunch of Firewinders to the South Bank in London and met up with some new friends. To be honest, London's contribution to Earth Hour was very underwhelming. But, it was good to see some notable buildings on the landscape become darkened silhouettes. If you don't know... we're all about off-grid and wind-powerd lights... we're part of the solution, not part of the problem.

The new dsPICDEM™ MCHV Development System is the industry’s only development tool for the rapid evaluation and design of a wide variety of high-voltage, closed-loop motor control applications using AC Induction Motors (ACIMs), Brushless DC (BLDC) motors or Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSMs). The board includes in-circuit debugging circuitry, eliminating the need for a separate debugger for development with Microchip’s dsPIC33 Motor Control DSC families. Additionally, this tool combines a proven motor-control system and Power Factor Correction (PFC) for regulatory requirements. For more information visit: www.microchip.com/DSCMotor
