Not looking good on the Cygnet front.. Both parents out on the Thames by Nags Head Island this morning, but only one cygnet in sight. Will have to keep a look out.

Seaham pier earlier today...highest tide of the year (thanks Barry). I was so engrosed in the shot I didn't see the water rushing at me...hence wet feet!
Playhouse Close
Once 'a steep, narrow stinking ravine' from the commercial heyday of this poultry and fishmarket.
Home also to the City Hangman or 'Doomster', the last being a John High who died in 1817.
George Heriot, benefactor and founder of the Hospital and School which bear his name, lived here in 1856.
Daniel Defoe is also rumoured to have worked here as a secret agent to the English Government at the Treaty of Union in 1707.
The head of the close was for many years a station for a primitive fire engine dragged out by rope in the event of emergency.

Playhouse Close is so called because it was the site of the first public playhouse to be built after the Reformation in Edinburgh. Thomas Sydserf, son of a Scottish bishop, had made a brief, unsuccessful attempt to open one in the 1660s at his rooms in nearby Carrubber’s Close. The ambitious Sydserf wrote his own comedies, translated others from the French, and even managed to stage a production of Macbeth, but the disapproval of the kirk meant that there were few practising Scottish dramatists, and in 1669 Sydserf was assaulted by a gang with swords while at rehearsals in his rooms. He did, however, lay the foundations for future challenges to the kirk’s authority over the matter of public theatre.
Built in 1746, the playhouse on this spot opened to the public the following year. The famous tragedy Douglas, by the Edinburgh clergyman and writer John Home, was first performed here before transferring to Covent Garden in London. However, the theatre came under fire from the Kirk and the Town Council, both of whom opposed its existence, and it closed in 1786.
Before the Playhouse was built in 1746 there was no public theatre here, but that didn’t mean that the Royal Mile didn’t see a lot of what we might think of as processional ‘street theatre’ in the sixteenth century.

Still relying on the macro extension tubes to get me out of a hole on day 15 of my 365 project. Picture taken using a Nifty Fifty Canon EF50mm F1.8 II with cheapo manual extension tubes a spare bit of Black acrylic that I had lying around, oh and the shiny contents of my back pocket, minus the fluff.
The full latin inscription on this version of the pound coin reads "Decus Et Tutamen" which translated means "An ornament and a safeguard". Other pound coin designs have different inscriptions.
my mom actually took this picture. weird, seeing her stance on tattoos. but i think she's loosening up, actually. she jokes about it. though she still insists that it's billboard sized and "flaming," she doesn't hate it, and i do believe she admitted it was nicely done.
anyway, it's the only picture i have where you can clearly see the script, which is absolutely beautiful. My artist hand drew all of this on the stencil. That's just his handwriting. I like it better that way.
btw, i got this done at Texas Body Art in Houston by Brandon. amazing.
The door closing panel laid up, will need to trim to suit the inner wing shape but wanted to use one mould for both sides instead of having 2 "handed" moulds and have make the recess larger than an original to allow more adjustment and also allow my large hands to get in there. I will fabricate a steel plate with 3-4 welded nuts on it then the hinge frame (yet to make) will bolt to this, I will slot the holes for adjustment, just hope I have got my measurements right!!

Yuba was very relaxed when I took his picture, having just finished a yummy meal of something out of a pouch that he clearly enjoyed. So, I could get close to him and take his picture...
