On the to-do list from the moment we started planning the trip. We chartered a helicopter to take the three of us around Iceland. Amazing amazing amazing. Landing on the peak of Eyjafjallajökull (the volcano that shut down Europe airports in 2010) was an impressive and humbling experience.

Happily, the weather conditions were favorable so our friendly pilot Reynir was able to land on the peak of this 5000+ foot tall still steaming volcano.

I put an extension tube on the Hasselblad and stood 12" away from the lens. Almost nailed focus. So close! Still fun though.

Vicars' Close, with Vicars' Chapel at the far end.

In 1348, Bishop Ralph of Shrewsbury founded a college so that the Vicars Choral, the singing men of the choir, could live together communally. He provided a hall for meals and each of the 42 vicars with his own small house. These were built on two sides of a quadrangle, with the hall at one end and later, a chapel enclosing the other end. In the 15th century, the houses were given front gardens and the Chain Gate was built to provide a passage from the hall into the cathedral. Vicars' Close, as the street came to be known, is the only completely medieval street in England.

Everytime you walk by

Just like me

They long to be

Close to you.

Parking close to the garage to make sure there's room for everyone in the driveway. I'd park in the garage, but it's a mess.

This is a really tiny sample which took me a long time to sew. I had plans to make a much bigger piece, full of buildings. inspired by some fab wallpaper I saw in a magazine (will find link... )

As close up as I could get to Peter...

I happened to find my Novoflex Auto Bellows over the weekend. And like my macro lens and 400 mm I thought these wouldn't work with the digital camera either. I was surprised when I hooked everything up and it worked.

This was taken with the 18-55 mm lens at 55 with bellows extended to full and f32.

I gave the glass on the pocket watch a good clean, but at these magnifications no scratch is left untouched. Used this to my advantage with a over sharpen and slight glass filter texture to come up with this effect.

Can't wait till the weekend with some good natural light to experiment some more.

So how does the Vivitar 135mm 2.8 close focusing perform on macro duty? I aimed it at my nearest toys and clicked the shutter.

Tray is seen here at 1:3 magnification.

No sharpening done. No nothing. This is straight out of the camera. Please feel free to look at the full size version. I've set a creative common license on all of these so everyone should be able to see the "all sizes" link above.
