Just a few lingering Hummers are around - hopefully a few more will show up after the storm passes tomorrow. I got up early (really!) to get a few shots in. I decided to try for an "extra" close shot. I didn't want to use the macro and risk scaring them.
I used a 300mm lens with a 2X TC and about 56mm of extension tubes for this shot. Starting with decent light which deteriorated with each thing I added to the lens left me with 1/60th of a second at f/13 even at ISO 640 from a distance of about 2 meters. This bird is in flight and you can see all the little blurry wing action. No crop.

A brown hare on the local farm. In January, it's fairly unusual to get this close (under 5m) as they are still generally spending time sheltering in woods and under thick hedgerows until early Spring.

My first attempt at macro photography. I took 3 images today with my new Nikon 100mm f2.8 macro using natural light. I did'nt realise how difficult it was to get this close but I am hooked already.

This RadioShack store was just four storefronts down from where Kmart was. It happened to be on its last day when I was visiting Xenia Towne Square to eat at a restaurant.
I took a quick look around inside on my first, last, and only visit to this store. I didn't find anything I was interested in, although there were a small assortment of items left, including cell phone cases, in-car chargers, and other accessories. As expected on the last day of a business, everything was at least 90% off.
It's sad to see yet another business leave Xenia Towne Square (there was a Hallmark store that had closed just a month before, on January 25), but with the entertainment center/movie theater plan going forward for the former Kmart and Fulmers, that will likely change!

Talk about irony, Kmart literally announced today that the Warren, PA location is closing December 7. Sad, but at the same time this isn't too surprising either. A big thanks goes out to wachovia_138 for letting me know about this.
I should of known by the signs that this store gave during my Sept 12 visit. The empty seasonal dept. and the untouched pantry area should of given me an alarm, but I guess I wasn't thinking about it.
Apparently this store had a lease through late next year, but for some reason it was decided to close it anyway. The owner of the mall tried to talk them out of it, but Kmart (Sears Holdings) wouldn't change their mind.
I hope to visit this store at least once again during its closing sale before it shuts down completely, but I may be able to go a second time if all goes well. At this point, I'm likely to only go once.
I'd say the Warren Mall is toast, but according to the same article that tells about this store's closing, a new tenant is coming to the old Big Lots. So the Warren Mall isn't completely hopeless, yet....

This is a macro photo according to the Canon classification, as the eyes are bigger than 1:1 (life-size) taken with an 85mm lens and a 26mm extension tube.
After the Cathedral and the Guildhall, this is probably the single most-photographed building in the entire city, despite the fact that its unusual gable is a late-19th century invention. Still, it remains an important Grade I listed building and the finest of its type still left in the city.
The area of Cathedral Close, Exeter has been in the centre of Exeter, England, since Roman times when there was a basilica and a bath house in this area. A church was established here by the seventh century when a young Saint Boniface came from Crediton to study. The area was walled after 1283 and seven gates into the yard were created. The gates included one at St Petrocks and the original grand entrance into the yard - Broadgate. This created the cathedral close.
In the centre of the green is a statue of Richard Hooker, a 16th-century Anglican theologian, who was born in Exeter.
This was one of 33 JCPenney stores to close in May 2014. This store was a smaller sized JCPenney, with only 34,260 square feet. This JCPenney was built in 1992.

Closing up slowly to the stop signal at the end of the platform, with the train ahead stopped literally only a metre or two past the signal! Our previous signal was passed showing a "low speed" indication.
While "low speed" is a subsidiary indication (modifies a stop indication), it is counted as a running indication and means that the line is clear to the next signal, but the line could be occupied immediately beyond the next signal. It certainly was here!
Low speed indications are considered an essential tool in the Sydney network, keeping trains moving at busy locations during periods of congestion. Especially important near stations, allowing a following train to move up close to the platform ready to enter, while the train ahead is still standing at the platform.
