If you really want to fill the frame using your widest angle lens, you've got be a bit extreme at times :)

The usual story with Buzzards is they are too far away, just for a change this one came too close, so much that I only got part of it in frame and had to crop the image.
Have a close look at this one; and you'll see me in the bird's eye reflection!!!

I took this picture on July 28th 2011, in the same Col du Grand Saint Bernard area where I've got a few other photos.
In fact, the peak here gazing at the starry sky is the left side of the same mountain used for my other work "Cosmic Dialogue", I moved only a two/three hundred meters on the left for this shot, in search of a second water stream that I had noticed the day before.
2011 summer weather has been quite unstable, with lots of sudden rain/snow at high altitude, a lucky chance because both these rather small streams were evidently still quite rich in water.
The subject here is always the same, my favourite :-) a dialogue between our little known world with the immense vastness of the unknown...
That's the reason of the title. Besides being an instinctive modest tribute to Spielberg, I've thought about a close encounter between two elements - the Earth and the Universe - that are just part of an organic whole. The eventual real meaning of this goes far beyond the understanding of man, since the dawn of time... and, for this reason, continues to arouse a great timeless interest.
As usual in night/astro photographic technique, this photo is obtained by combining two exposures: a very long one at low/ordinary ISO for the landscape, in order to preserve details and best high definition print quality, plus a second one of about thirty seconds at high ISO, I've used 6400 here, for the cosmos, any longer exposure would have resulted in beginning star trails.
(Obviously it's all manual focusing, tripod, mirror lock up, remote shutter release).

While trying for a second day to do some yardwork where this ornamental lotus flower garden stake is located, a second anole lizard - this one - was spotted.
I was reaching into this flower to clean out the debris which I couldn't get to yesterday because a little brown anole was hiding there. Imagine my surprise when this little green lizard popped his head up to see what was going on.
That's it. Yard work halted. Again.
Raced for my camera again and it was still there. Took lots of shots, including this "blind shot" holding the camera as far over the center as possible. Not until viewing the photos later did I see this fellow is missing part of his tail... evidence of a close call.

The closest I could get with a phone 'scan' & vertical perspective adjustment, dodging the glossy reflection. Real scans coming asap. B&W blackframe film for Spectra, shot with flash.
Last shot of the pack came through with deep, dark sky in the background. No roller stripes, real depth and more detail that will only show when I've scanned this properly. To think all my polaroid week shots came from the same pack...

I felt a great need to post something warm and sunny to counter the effects of the heaviness of the last few days . . . and the cold winter nights. Photo taken in our meadow, processed with Topaz Impressions. I attempted to layer additional textures but the purity of the colours seemed to repel the grunge.
