This man's posture expresses loneliness and evokes both emotional closeness and distance.

The railing represents only the visual distance. The human distance arises because we seem to have forgotten how to approach one another.

Where have they been?

A District Line London Underground train caught in a platform observation mirror, Edgeware Road station, Paddington, West London. Title suggested by Jiri Menzel's wonderful 1966 film Closely Observed Trains (Ostre Sledované Vlaky in its original Czechoslovakian), and not at all by hanging around Soho late on a Friday night. Allegedly...

The Very Large Array in New Mexico has several different configurations based on the size of the aperture they need to synthesize by the combination of signals received to all of the 27 telescopes. This configuration happens to be the most compact, which simplifies the job of capturing the technological majesty of the array. Set in the richly clear skies of this part of New Mexico, the array benefits just as much from being in a remote, limited electronic noise location. Better keep my camera from emitting any signals! This image was taken late in the day, in the run up to some night sky shooting as part of the 2018 Festival of the Cranes in nearby Soccorro. Cheers!

This is a closeup shot of a dried out sunflower. I was messing around with a cheap macro diopter, hand held in front of the Holga's lens. With the help of my TLR's viewing lens, I figured out the optimal focus distance when using the diopter is roughly the length of my iPhone. So imagine, I'm standing by someone's yard, one hand precariously holding the Holga's lens barrel and a diopter in front, and another hand with my iPhone between the front of the lens and the sunflower to get the proper focus distance... oh, and I'm awkwardly kneeling in a foot of snow. Good times.

I want to lay my head down

Come close, come closer

What's that uncomfortable sound

Of your key in the door

I hear you walking out

Walking out again

Why didn't you stay a while

To say goodbye, my friend

I want to lay my head down

Come closer, come closer

I thought you'd turn me

But you were turning around

I think I'm losing you

Losing you again

Why didn't you stay a while

To say goodbye, my friend

My friend

Winter shadow cools you

Right before your eyes

Summer shadow soothes

Nothing on your mind

Winter shadow cools you

Right before your eyes

Summer shadow soothes you

Tonight

I want to lay my head down

Come closer, come closer

Trying not to remember

Our most precious of times

Remember winters cold

And summers by my side

Please tell me I do leave

A void of any kind

(say goodbye now)

Winter shadow cools you

Right before your eyes

Summer shadow soothes

Nothing on your mind

Winter shadow cools you

Right before your eyes

Summer shadow soothes you

Tonight

This performance and installation honors the memory of those who russia has killed in the ongoing war. We aim to show the destructive path of russia’s war as it moves closer to the EU, with signs of the names of Ukrainian cities that suffer constant attacks or have been totally destroyed.

While trying for a second day to do some yardwork where this ornamental lotus flower garden stake is located, a second anole lizard - this one - was spotted.

I was reaching into this flower to clean out the debris which I couldn't get to yesterday because a little brown anole was hiding there. Imagine my surprise when this little green lizard popped his head up to see what was going on.

That's it. Yard work halted. Again.

Raced for my camera again and it was still there. Took lots of shots, including this "blind shot" holding the camera as far over the center as possible. Not until viewing the photos later did I see this fellow is missing part of his tail... evidence of a close call.

** Shots below show what the ornamental garden stake looks like.

The youthful common eland, named Code, came to the fence to say hello. It's going to be fun to watch as he grows.
