A fanastic sight to watch these dragonflies slowly climbing up the reeds and flying off in the early morning sun
I thought I would quickly upload a close-up of the flowers on the red tree I posted earlier. You will note in the shadows that there are some brown acorn like lumps which I likened to the tight head of a tulip, probably bad description by me, that sit at the base of the flower and from which it springs. What can't be seen in this shot are the limbs and branches with the large spikes, I won't call them thorns as they are more meaty than thorns. Sorry for my poor descriptions, I probably failed adjectives in English at school. Anyway, again for Lisa who of course loves red but also to help all my flickr friends who are great horticulturalists with identification. We looked but the flowers on google had normal branches and limbs. Whatever this tree is, it didn't want possums and other animals eating it's flowers!
Christy Gallois was right. We found one, a Bombax Ceiba or Red Silk Cotton Tree today in Rockhampton. It's flowers were more advanced, a bit withered and had turned orange. It was sitting right on the Tropic of Capricorn.

No I was not that close! This is a heavy crop from a long lens just because I thought that it was interesting to see this detail.
