Winterbourne House B'Ham

April 2016

The case of this clock is inscribed with Morgan & Son Bristol.

According to "Selling antiques" The Morgan family of clockmakers from Bristol are noted makers. Thomas Morgan was active from 1761 to 1838 but it might have been made by another family member.

I took this shot with a Canon Rebel t2i. This was of a clock tower in Bricktown in Oklahoma City, OK, that had a clock on alll for sides. This is just two of the sides.

Taken for this week's Macro Mondays theme 'Timepieces'. The face of this small carriage clock is about 4 " in diameter. I liked the way that using a light source at the side threw the shadows of the hands across the face.

This Neo-Gothic style landmark building on the Georgetown University campus was completed in 1879. The cross here reflects that Georgetown is a Jesuit/Catholic institution.

Built between the 11th and 18th centuries, the Old Town, the Lesser Town and the New Town speak of the great architectural and cultural influence enjoyed by this city since the Middle Ages. The many magnificent monuments, such as Hradcani Castle, St Vitus Cathedral, Charles Bridge and numerous churches and palaces, built mostly in the 14th century under the Holy Roman Emperor, Charles IV.

I was in Gloucester the other day when I spotted this pretty clock at the top of the Debenhams building. I thought it was perfect for the 'hands' topic in my scavenger hunt 113 pictures in 2013.

Eastgate clock stands on the original entrance to the Roman fortress of Deva Victrix and is said to be the most photographed clock in England after Big Ben!

Chester has the longest and most complete circuit of historic walls in Britain!

The Walls are about two miles long and were first built by the Romans nearly 2000 years ago. They were extended and developed in the Saxon period 10th century. During the 12th century, the Normans rebuilt and extended the Walls so for the first time since the Romans, the Walls formed a completed circuit around Chester.

These structures are the oldest industrial buildings in London dating back to the 18th century, although the history of milling on this site goes back even further.

View from the top of the clock tower. Amazing views and gorgeous morning light coming through, we really lucked out on the weather. For the entire day the snow storm took a break and allowed us to see why Kafka would say this...Prague never lets you go… this dear little mother has sharp claws –Franz Kafka

It's a while since I tried still life photography. And I realize, just now, that I could have changed the time on the clock (which was stopped) since it's quite obvious that it's not taken that late. It was 21:08.

Ever wondered why clocks use the roman numeral for 4 like this "IIII" instead of "IV", which would be the correct one? Wikipedia offers a number of explanations. I'm going to copy this one (my choice!): "Louis XIV, king of France, who preferred IIII over IV, ordered his clockmakers to produce clocks with IIII and not IV, and thus it has remained"

The famous astronomical clock @ Strasbourg in the Notre Dame cathedral there. Daily shows are made of it in operation. This & the close up of the base section were taken in extremely dark conditions using the hand held night shot facility on my old FZ150.

Anyone who has been to Glasgow’s Buchanan Bus Station will have spotted the striking Clyde Clock.

The cube shaped clock – perched on top of a pair of stainless steel legs, 20 feet high – reminds locals to run on time every single day.

Twelve years after its installment, though, the clock suddenly stopped – and it took the power of Glasgow’s people to get things ticking over again.

One of the landmarks of the Bisley National Shooting Centre is the clock tower. It was originally placed on Wimbledon Common where the National Rifle Association ran its Imperial meeting up until 1890. The competition moved to Bisley and so did the clock tower.

This image was taken during the 2016 Imperial meeting on a warm but cloudy day. The wind was blowing down the range in the background towards the clock tower and so was ideal for a long exposure for the cloud trails. The sun is trying to peep through and brighten the evening.
