Tuesday, 19 April 2022. Winter has returned for the umpteenth time, bringing more snow today. Back to posting a few more images from my archives this evening. I am adding the description that I wrote under a different image taken on the same outing.
Photographed in the ENMAX Conservatory at the Calgary Zoo on 26 April 2010. I think this is a Blue Clipper.

The (Blue/Brown sailors)Clipper reached a wing span of 60 to 100 millimeters. There are between subspecies some significant color differences, the basic pattern remains the same. The coloration of the body and the wings may be dark brown, but greenish, bluish, orange or light brown. On top of the front wing of this butterfly has a series of white dots of different sizes. The outer edge is gray black. On the hind wings there is a wide hem of narrow stripes that run vertically.

I visited the Butterfly Place today to get some last shots before they close for the season on Tuesday. I just replaced my polarizing filters after they'd all gotten too scratched. I need to stop being lazy about putting my lens caps back on!
Jardin botanique de Montréal (March 2019). The clipper is a species of nymphalid butterfly found in south and southeast Asia, mostly in forested areas. The clipper is a fast-flying butterfly and has a habit of flying with its wings flapping stiffly between the horizontal position and a few degrees below the horizontal. It may glide between spurts of flapping.
