She has on her new dress and shawl, which are perfect to wear out.

Still going strong - although that's probably not a word to be associated with the Dennis Trident - some six and a half years after leaving Brighton and Hove, I came upon the former 887 (T677 KPU) near Harefield this week, 5th October 2020. It has carried the name Chiltern Clipper with Peter Reynolds Coaches for some years and now continues to do so with 1st Elite (Davies Coaches) who appear to have taken some of the Reynolds business over. It was, of course, new to Stagecoach for red London service.

... so at some point I plan to build a minifig scale space SHIP that can deploy small starfighters. The original idea last year was to do it for the Valkyrie-VV design, but that didn't work out (and instead it became the "space tower"). Thought I'd revisit the idea for SHIPtember, but priorities/motivation haven't been cooperating. I did still work on creating a smaller starfighter in a similar style. This is the result.

Critiques welcome.

left to right, a 1954 packard clipper deluxe and a 1955 packard clipper. we found these in a wonderful lot at the rear of the packard museum in dayton, ohio, i'm guessing they're in line for restoration some time.

i've decided to take a little break from blogging, i've got other things i need to focus on for a while, and blogging is just too distracting! i will be back though, i have hundreds of shots processed and around 12 films not even scanned yet!

UP #1983 leading the ZG2OA through Clipper Gap.

Seen moored by Pier 17 on the East River, the ‘Clipper City’ sailboat offers evening cruises around NYC. Brooklyn Bridge forms the backdrop.

The clipper (Parthenos sylvia) is a really pretty species found in southeast Asia and a bit down into Oceania, but the special thing is that there are several distinct colour forms. I am not knowledgable enough to tell you which subspecies this is, but the brown colur was really nice here.

Unfortunately for this one, the wings didn't dry out entirely flat so the lower right one ended up a little bit curled like this. Since this was taken at the Haga Ocean butterfly house, there is however zero risk of predation and it could fly well enough to get around so I would say it was okay.

For this shot, I used a tripod which allowed me to use as small an aperture as f/9.5 even though I wasn't allowed to use a flash so it came out with a nice bit of depth of field compared to if I would have had to shoot just handheld.

This was the scene in the central basin of St Katherine's Dock, adjacent to Tower Bridge, one day in August 2015. The yachts are third-generation one-design Clipper Race yachts, capable of speeds of 35 kt. They set out on their 11-month round-the-world race at the end of the month from a start point off Southend.

The 12 70-foot yachts in the race made up the world’s largest matched fleet of ocean racing yachts. Designed by naval architect Tony Castro, they were the shining jewel in the Clipper Race crown, perfectly adapted to this gruelling sailing challenge. Those masts are 95 feet tall (and one individual in a bosun's chair can be seen about a third of the way up the nearest mast).

As with all lean, mean ocean racing yachts, the Clipper 70s are not for the faint-hearted. They are by design stripped of all luxuries. Crews (24 bunks provided) must become experts at living in a confined space, managing all their kit and belongings as they settle into their new home. Only the skippers in each boat are professionals, the rest are amateur volunteers.

The Clipper 70s feature twin helms, twin rudders and a six-foot bowsprit, which allows the inclusion of three large asymmetric spinnakers and a suite of Yankee headsails, which combine to increase performance and boat speed. The hull design produces better performance and control, especially in the light winds encountered near the Equator or between weather systems when crossing oceans. The design provides total control in the heaviest of conditions, ensuring not only high speeds, but safety too.

Here's one from December, a lovely colorful evening up on Yerba Buena Island(YBI). A fishing vessel is anchored in the placid waters of Clipper Cove, near the eastern span of the bay bridge. That is the busy port of Oakland in the distance. The pink sky was from the Belt of Venus effect directly opposite the sunset.

I believe the lens was an older A120mm macro, but I cannot be certain. It may have been the 105mm.

Thanks for looking.

The Clipper (Parthenos sylvia) is a species of nymphalid butterfly found in South and South-East Asia, mostly in forested areas. It is found in Sri Lanka, India, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Borneo, Sumatra, the Philippines, Sulawesi, Java, Bali, Papua New Guinea and Irian Jaya. The Clipper is a powerful and fast flying butterfly. The flight consists of short periods of gliding, alternating every few seconds with shallow but rapid flickering wing beats.
