As part of the International Coastal Cleanup, members of Gulf High School's environmental club cleaned up Eagle Point Park in New Port Richey on Sept. 21, from 8 to 11:30 a.m.
Information from the club: "Members of the environmental club arrived at the designated park at 8AM. They proceeded to sign in for the cleanup and collect the necessary supplies: gloves, vests, bug spray, water, and garbage bags. Starting at the park gate, the members set out on the road to collect trash. Copious amounts of trash were collected by the members, resulting in many filled garbage bags. This continued until they reached the end of the road, where they turned back to make their way back to the park. Once back at the park, the members explored the park, observing the surrounding environment: trees, foliage, water, playgrounds, and boardwalks. At 10:45, it was time for the members who volunteered to pick up food from their two designated restaurants. Once they returned, a great feast commenced, resulting in many full stomachs and empty plates. After the meal, the event concluded and all dispersed."

The Tohono O'odham Nation, translated as “desert people” is a federally recognized Tribe located in southwestern Arizona on a reservation larger than the state of CT.
In the spirit of Volunteerism & in honor of Martin Luther King Day of Service, the National Society for American Indian Elderly (NSAIE) worked with the Tohono O'odham Division of Senior Services who created a Sells Community clean up day held Saturday, January 16, 2010.
Over forty-five volunteers met bright-and-early Saturday morning at the Sells Catholic Church, immediately rolling up sleeves and diving in. Volunteers included twelve youth and ten Tribal Elders. This cleanup is part of an ongoing effort to improve quality of life for the Tohono O'odham Nation through beautification of the Sells community. Participants were later rewarded with a homemade traditional American Indian lunch at the nearby Sells District Office.
The area chosen for clean up was located in Sells, Arizona ~ capital of the Tohono O’odham Nation. The Tohono O’odham Nation reservation comprises over 2.8 Million acres in Southern Arizona and is located within the Sonoran Desert - on the edge of the US Border. Boundaries begin south of Casa Grande, AZ and include parts of Pinal and Pima Counties before continuing south into Mexico.
The project site chosen by the Tohono O'odham Elders has been blight on the community for over twenty years, attracting problems the community is fighting to eradicate. This said, the MLK Day clean-up was the first in a two tiered clean-up effort for which the NSAIE and Tohono O'odham organizers continue to recruit volunteers.
On Friday, January 29th, a second clean up will take place, culminating in the tearing down of the many decades abandoned building on the clean-up site captured in these photographs. For more information, or, to find out how to get involved in this second clean-up phase, please contact the NSAIE or Wendy Burns, the NSAIE AmeriCorps VISTA serving with the Tohono O'odham Elderly Services Division.

A CSX MOW truck has just finished trimming trees on the Cumberland Sub. The truck is in Cherry Run, WV. The far left track crosses the Potomac River and is the end of the Lurgan Subdivision (fromer WM). The track occupied by the truck is the low grade line, which follows the curvature of the Potomac River. The two tracks on the right are the High Grade line, which take a more direct route to Martinsburg, WV.
