Another take on LL 918, from Ideas. Modified so it doesn't mix modern parts and obsolete parts. Original here:

The crew of a Galaxy Explorer dismantled their beloved spaceship to build this transmitter and a small station around it for one purpose only: to send a #BuildToGive signal into the Space.

Home Key Hanger - my Lego Ideas project

Have a nice day!

I have no idea what an actual landspeeder underside looks like.

Another alternate build I've made, this time using all the parts from the set 6891 (released in 1985).

Not very happy with the back section - But I like the overall style of this "little bird" ^^

A redux of my first lego set ever

A vintage model, refurbished by a lone Spacer with a small budget.

This has been in the pipeline for a couple of weeks. Did most of the finishing work today. I'd like to make one or two minor improvements, but it's 95% done.

Jenny and Lenny's light two-seat scouting speeder usually used for a quick reconnaissance.

MOC. Works in conjunction with my Mobile Rocket Launcher variant.

I put the glory shot last this time, as I felt that the set in it's entirety deserved to be the first photo. One of the things I'm most proud of is getting black and yellow stripes to be flush with the wings. Sure they're longer and narrower, but the effect isn't half bad.

The rear is, proportionally, a bit chunky compared to the original. This is because the rear of the Galaxy Explorer is eight studs wide, and I couldn't cut it in half to four studs and still have details like the antenna and red lights to either side of the buggy compartment's windscreen.

Over all I think it works though, and getting it to look right is what made me push on ahead to start building more classic space micro.

2nd version already in the works, using a different build and the blue/grey CS livery.

He has been chosen!

That claw is just one of those details that, despite its simplicity, took forever to get right.

A modern update of set 6890 "Cosmic Cruiser" aka "Delta 1 Explorer and Shuttle," primarily inspired by a Space Police 3 sketch model built by Mark Stafford in 2007 or 2008, which in turn reminded NilsOBrix of the Cosmic Cruiser in a comment. Original here:

The Cosmic Cruiser is harder to update than the 918/924/928 series, because so much of its identity derives from its functionality rather than its shape. The mini scooter inside the larger spaceship, which itself is still small and swooshable, is a fun idea, but I don't like some aspects of the original set. The main rocket motor is way too big for the scooter, and with the scooter removed the spaceship is an immobile shell. With the scooter in place, the cockpit is anything but airtight, and the scooter rattles around as if it's about to fall out.

In this update, I wanted to keep the size and shape of Mark Stafford's sketch model while adding Cosmic Cruiser play features. I also wanted the Cruiser itself to still be flyable without the scooter - perhaps it can operate autonomously to come pick up the scooter if the scooter runs out of gas. That meant the scooter had to have a separate, smaller engine and the Cruiser had to have a set of retractable landing gear separate from the scooter. That also required the main engine and the rear fuselage to all swing up on the same hatch, which became too heavy to trust to the hinges used. It was then a bit of a challenge to come up with locks to hold the hatch in the open and closed positions. The hull color had to be red because a critical wedge piece is not available in blue.

The scooter is smaller and more boring than I would have preferred, but it fits neatly in the shell of the Cruiser with a docking mechanism that's a little bit more sophisticated than simply leaving studs on top, and the cockpit is airtight. As an homage to the original set, the scooter is built around the current standard automobile base, just like the original was. Unfortunately, I couldn't find room for the scooter to carry the standard set of tools (radio, spanner, space gun).

The 1994 set "Saucer Scout" was one of those simplistic sets I remember as an 11 year old that caught my eye, even though it wasn't the bid robot, or the even bigger robot, or the big saucer thingy.

Lego Space in 1994 was in an odd transition from the "Classic" era to the weird Insectoids, UFO, and Exploriens stuff. Spyrius/Unitron was the last real hurrah before the weirder stuff, and I lost interest (until Star wars.)

The Mk 5 Saucer Scout was a project that largely built itself quickly as a tribute to what was, and what could be with new bricks available today. I sought to honor the original while giving it new life and elegance with our modern bricks. Enjoy!

Thanks a lot, everyone, for your nice comments on previous MOCs ! :-D

The crew of LL-928 explore a planet rich with ancient life

Underside. A piece of bley snuck in this shot, and the engines aren't aligned properly. Damn it.

I need more of those tail fins. These two are the only surviving ones... well, one was actually broken and I had to superglue it :/

This design looks quite aggressive, like an A-10 tank killer. I want to make a redesign which pronounces the "Gun with a ship built around it" concept more.

Is that a heat sink on the back? I'm not sure what the compartment is for. The robot doesn't fit into it. Maybe it's for maintenance access or general storage.

The split function doesn't seem to serve any function. Perhaps the rear part overheats sometimes, forcing the pilot to dump it.

The wings on the back have some kind of suspension mechanism caused by the rubber hoses.

A small moon rover I ended up making after I experimented how to creatively use an old Racers pull-back motor.

The XL-15 enters the LEGO City!

This set wouldn’t have been on my radar if it wasn’t for the buzz about the Lightyear film’s director being AFOL Angus MacLane (check out his builds on Flickr!).

Evidently, he pushed for the in-film design to have a yellow transparent canopy, reminiscent of the Classic Space elements.

He also had an interesting spot on LEGOCon, worth a check out.

The build of this one and a cat seater spaceship is substantial! As a medium sized ship it checks most boxes for me: fits all accessories, swoosh-ability is there, has mobile base in form of laptop (stretch), and droid in the Catbot (also stretch). No escape pod/rover, which loses some points when compared to the medium builds of my ‘90s childhood.

But the elements and connections this set brings to the table blow anything from my childhood away. There are a few elements that are super obscure.

Color scheme for the spaceship is great, can’t miss with light blue, white, and black with that yellow canopy.

Also bonus points for extra head/hair elements for minifigs.

Less stellar for me were the minifigs. Buzz looks pretty good, but I’d prefer the dome over a normal helmet (I’m sure that’s a movie plot detail). The other figs have nice printing, but are pretty mute brown, like something out of a Star Wars set.

The shoulder pauldrons for all of them are cumbersome to range of motion.

The rocket launcher build doesn’t really work out to be held, but I do appreciate the built up weapon/scanning accessories.

Very nice set, strong suggest for the building experience and MOC possibilities!

I left off the red stripes off the wings. Does it look cleaner? Worse? Let me know

I’ll be looking at more contemporary LEGO sets that are bringing back Classic Space soon!

Celebrating Classic Space Themes in a modular building.

Built by our 13yr old son

The Planetary Mining Rover is a mass produced rover used extensively throughout the galaxy. The equipped dual drilling arms are capable of breaking through some of the toughest materials known to man. A cargo compartment in the rear of the rover enables the P.M.R. to transport materials back to base.

I made several model improvements while I was at developign the instructions to the Descent Module. The standard Lego designed model has lots of voids, missing details and unightly off-colour scheme parts. All fixed in this version!
