LL jnr

Here is a baby replica of the latest iteration of the LEGO Galaxy Explorer set 10497. It still has the main play features of the original set just down sized. Pop off canopy, steering wheels, opening rear end with boarding ramp, airlock sliding door and last but not least ride on booster engines!

This was a blast to build. And was inspired by the builds @troublesbricking made while I was travelling Europe. While on holiday I managed to track down this squad of space babies so that when I got as soon as I got back from holiday I could get into building this moc.

3x or Triplo version of the 1981 set #6801

Comparison shot with original

Some old WIP shots of my portion of my lugs collab.

I’ve had the idea for a while since seeing the vintage box art of classic space and thought that the bright light yellow would suit as a great space surface to replicate the box art, reassessing that box art it’s definitely just tan. But I still wanted to execute this idea.

After recently watching Wallace and Gromit grand day out (a childhood fav) it was decided!

Classic space cheese mining base!

The goal is to make it look like cheese has fallen splat/melted onto the display and a small space pad and mining outfit was established. Where my baby Explorer (LL jnr) will be loading up cheese. Many cheese puns were used in the making of this :P

The PL 314 is a short range inter system transport ship and is capable of carrying all types of cargo. It doesn't carry always carry contraband, but when it does, it prefers Dos Equis.

Stay thirsty Space Friends.

The LLRU (Large Land Reclamation Unit) was one of the largest vehicles in the Federation exploration fleet. The LLRU was used for purposes of mining and land reclamation. However, when the Ugokin threat was evident, the LLRU was converted into a war machine with a 7-strategic missile LONKA (Large ordinance nucleo-kinetic array) and a BFGgun (Buezo-Florantz Gauss gun) and is now one of the biggest threats to Ugokin High Command.

Wow, I have been away for long! I wonder where all the time went. I finally finished something, at least.

This beast is fully remote-controlled and has flashing lights. the cannon moves up and down automatically.

The little thing is a micro fanboy version of nnenn's great 'Enforcer battle platform'. It is held together with quite a bit of blu-tac and I would be interested to know how much of you would regard that as 'cheating'... :P

EDIT: I just found out about Nnenn. I am happy that this latest model was inspired by him an I would like to dedicate this to him. RIP Nnenn.

Another Rover made from instructions found in the Lego Idea Book 250 (published in 1987).

This one is a big bigger (than my previous upload) and looks like the bastard son of sets 6882 and 6926 ^^ Very funny little thing, with unusual quantity of SNOT for its time.

I really wonder if some of the instructions found in the old Lego Idea Books are aborted ideas for real sets, or if they were imagined just for the books...

Modding 75288 into 6940. I've wanted to mod an AT-AT into an Alien Moon Stalker for a long time, having read several accounts of how 80s kids used their Alien Moon Stalkers as AT-ATs when playing Star Wars with their Lego. I've shortened the legs, added glass to the main panels, added lower hatches for the rocket exhaust, modded the roof, and added two large two-stage rockets inside the main body. Still have to add storage compartments, lights, comm antennas to the main body, tools and controls and railings and stuff inside the main compartment, and of course figure out how to build a detachable spaceship head and grabby tail that fit stylistically with the main body.

Just playing around with LDD a little bit, as it's been a little while (real life sort took priority) & while waiting for my Brickheadz order, I thought what other Brickheadz would I like to see & boom...

A self contained Research Base, built on a planet in the cold icy depths of space.

The first floor houses the main access airlock and the lab and bio-dome where the scientists carry out all their experiments.

The second floor houses the habitation block, with bunk beds, a kitchenette and toilet facilities.

The third floor has a store and laundry and a second airlock allowing roof access.

The roof contains all the communication equipment and an observation (or angry) dome.

During the early days of the Civil Space Police, they fielded the Solar Vanguard, a hybrid interceptor/perp transport.

The Solar Vanguard was mostly used on sleepy backwater worlds to apprehend rogue Blacktron agents committing minor offenses such as jay-walking, spitting, and public drunkeness.

Quick, well-armed, and holding an internal single holding cell, this is one Space Police craft not to take lightly.

Made for the "Out of this World Space Builds!" contest on Ideas. Neo-CS ship, with its docking robot.

Streamlined version's challenge page: ideas.lego.com/s/ca:c3839db98c4f41e9965931549161df4d

This is the original version of a LEGO vignette I created for an Ideas competition called "Exploring the Cosmos". The premise of the building challenge is to make futuristic space vehicles or bases with using 150-250 pieces total. I built this project, shot the photo, and then afterwards realized I went well over the 250 part limit. I ended up streamlining the project significantly by removing some of the detail of the ship, removing the three small meteors surrounding the ship, and reduced the size of the exploding meteor. This brought the total count to 250 pieces exactly. Next I retook the streamlined version's photos and submitted it to the competition. Hence the version seen in the challenge page looks a bit different than the image seen here.

The original working name of the project was the "Asteroid Authority", clearly inspired by the classic Atari game Asteroids. Whether I win the contest or not, I at least deserve some credit for the awesome name "Meteor Watchdog!"

A C6 RU15-11 in Classic Space livery. I managed to scrape up enough OLG, but not enough ODG. As this is a C6 frame, all elements are 1980 or earlier. Sadly, I don't own a 1x2 slope in trans yellow though.

RU15-11 Mobile Frame Hangar post

When the Giant Galactic Glass (3G) company produced their windscreen #13252 in Transparent Yellow, designers across galaxy were very excited. 3G's product allowed unparalleled bandwidths of light to pass through, creating amazing experiences for users of mobile space stuff (or that's what their brochures said). Llwyngwril Systems were commissioned to use the new component in a surface vehicle. The Design Director crossed the car park to shed where the vehicle design team were based with heavy heart and this rover was the result.

The rover featured large balloon tyres and suspension with big springs and a long range of travel. This enabled it to traverse the roughest, rockiest craters on the lunar surface. Two large floodlights were mounted on the front of the rover, along with twin bull-bars, in case of a cattle stampede (On the moon? Really?). A radar was also mounted on the front of the cabin. This last piece of equipment was essential.

The vehicle's designers were very afraid of the large, expensive canopy being damaged. They decided to mount it in a manner that would protect it from flying rocks and other debris, though this did result in a somewhat restricted view for the driver. A second crewman sat in the back to help the driver find his way over rugged terrain, at high speed.

The rover was never popular with its crews, despite its high speed, comfortable ride and spacious, pressurised cabin. The driver's restricted view resulted in frequent crashes. As there were no cup holders, mugs of English Breakfast and Yorkshire tea were spilled all around the cabin. If you've ever spilt tea in your car, you'll know that it will smell like bad cheese for weeks afterwards. Crews were forced to either drink their tea black or wear their spacesuits with the helmets closed to keep the cheesy smell out.

As soon as I saw this windscreen on the Lego Movie "Spaceship!", I knew exactly which way round it really should have gone...

I have a new building set for sale in my store! Limited quantities available. Find it at www.paulhetheringtonartist.com/store or Message me to get your copy.

This set comes with custom printed instructions signed by me, and includes 141 new LEGO brand elements.

Bring back those fun childhood memories of your favorite LEGO Rocket Base Space set!

This miniature version captures all the fun details of the original set in a pint size version that is perfect for display on your shelf, or in your office or creative space. The Space Base is shown bursting out of a LEGO brick to illustrate the creative potential that sets like these brought to our childhood.

The Rocket Base includes a rocket that can be launched from it’s platform. The gantry is hinged to fold away just like in the original set. The control room is the center of operations and includes the radar dish to track the rocket’s progress. The fueling vehicle can be removed for play along with the iconic red and white astronauts. You can experience all of the features of the original set in miniature form!

Blue Box Transporter, with lookout (should not be used while driving). To transport all precious lunar findings.

My Bricks and Pieces order arrived today, so I can begin to tidy up my black ops Exo-Suit. A long time in the making, he sat in the loft, neglected, for too long.

Proper photos to come when I work out what to do about the remaining LBG parts: the half bushes and the wheel hubs

1991’s Blacktron II little battle pack, The Two-Pilot Craft. What a name.

This fun little craft is about as basic as it gets. No printed pieces, other than the minifigs, but the weird thing has charm!

Blacktron II is a great space sub-theme with the black, white, and neon green color scheme. Really screams retro LEGO to me.

Acquiring this set was really just to grab a couple more of these minifigs for cheap, but I’m happy with this funny little craft.

More ‘90s LEGO to be featured soon, including more (larger) Blacktron II
