Built in 1894-96, the Monroe County Courthouse was designed by J. Foster Warner. It features Classical Revival and Italianate elements. The structure is a contributing property to the City Hall Historic District, which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

Peek & Cloppenburg Flagship Store, Vienna, Austria
The new Peek & Cloppenburg flagship store will be located on Kärtner Strasse, between
Johannesgasse and Himmelpfortgasse, in Vienna’s historic centre, a district protected as a
UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The starting point for the design was the idea of a “building with windows” – a modern, abstract
interpretation of a classical building typology, which is not freestanding but part of the overriding
structure of the urban area. The building will assert itself as tectonically powerful, and
demonstrate a long-lasting and institutional character through the selection of its materials and
proportions, whilst remaining modest and above all becoming an integral part of the street
façade. The defining material for the façade is a light-coloured, finely pointed Danube Limestone
(Donaukalk) – a typical Viennese building material. The façade will be solidly built, corresponding
in its materiality and craftsmanship with the historic context.
The new building volume will close the urban block as a continuation of the neighbouring
buildings. In its rational structure the design ties in strongly with the tradition of late Viennese
department stores. The façade will subtly react to the structure of the neighbouring buildings.
The window proportions and the ratio between closed wall and openings will reflect the historic
neighbouring buildings. The otherwise recessed glass layer will be brought forward on the ground
floor, transforming the wall openings into display windows at street level. On the fourth floor, the
façade will open up to the city through a loggia.
The six sales levels will be accessed from the main entrance on Kärtner Strasse via a central
atrium, flooded by daylight. A translucent glass and bronze structure crowns the atrium in the
tradition of the large department stores of the 19
th
century, acting as a counterpoint to the sales
areas with its textile stock.

Tim and I continued to see her busking in several locations during our trip. I always throw in some coins for street musicians, regardless of the genre they're performing.

Nastaranga is used by placing two metal shehnai -like instruments on the both side of the neck and basically humming a raag. The sound is produced by neck vibrations.

Early views of this space show a green lawn dotted with sculpture. It later became the Fountain Restaurant one of the grandest spaces in New York for people on a budget to enjoy. The entire area inside the columns was a pool and fountain showcasing “Aganippe: The Fountain of Muses” by Carl Milles 1951-55. The fountain did not pass the cool test and in 1982 was sold to Brookgreen Gardens, South Caroline where it is exhibited outdoors.
The new configuration is very attractive but I miss the fountain.

The visitor to the ancient city of Aphrodisias is first greeted by numerous sculpted architectural fragments within and around it's museum, a taste of how impressive this city, a major centre for ancient sculpture, must once have been.
Much of the museum was closed for refurbishment when we visited, which initially caused some disappointment, though the room still accessible was the largest and contains an impressive series of relief sculptures from the reign of Emperor Claudius (41-54 AD).
The surrounding gardens contain many richly decorated sarcophagi and beautifully carved architectural embellishments of the highest quality.
