Classical Guitar

Was lucky enough to have beautiful natural light during yesterdays visit to the little known Museum of Classical Archaelogy in Cambridge

After a long day of shooting and ready to find a place for dinner, I heard this beautiful classical music and fallowed my ears ... I walked around a corner and up a few steps of this small neighborhood church and when I stopped to stand in the open doorway, this is what I saw ...

The Rijksmuseum

The Rijksmuseum (English: State Museum) is a Netherlands national museum dedicated to arts and history in Amsterdam. The museum is located at the Museum Square in the borough Amsterdam South, close to the Van Gogh Museum, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, and the Concertgebouw.

The Rijksmuseum was founded in The Hague in 1800 and moved to Amsterdam in 1808, where it was first located in the Royal Palace and later in the Trippenhuis. The current main building was designed by Pierre Cuypers and first opened its doors in 1885. On 13 April 2013, after a ten-year renovation which cost € 375 million, the main building was reopened by Queen Beatrix. In 2013 and 2014, it was the most visited museum in the Netherlands with record numbers of 2.2 million and 2.45 million visitors.

The museum has on display 8,000 objects of art and history, from their total collection of 1 million objects from the years 1200–2000, among which are some masterpieces by Rembrandt, Frans Hals, and Johannes Vermeer.

I'm currently updating a translation with the Greek names for the gods and goddesses--will publish soon! :)

"RAGE--Sing, O goddess, the anger of Achilles son of Peleus, that brought countless ills upon the Achaeans. Many a brave soul did it send hurrying down to Hades, and many a hero did it yield a prey to dogs and vultures, for so were the counsels of Zeus fulfilled from the day on which the son of Atreus, king of men, and great Achilles, first fell out with one another. " --Homer's Iliad capturing the rage of the 45EPIC landscapes and seascapes! :)

The Avison Ensemble is performing at Bamburgh Castle on Saturday, 4th September 2010 a programme of Jacobite rebellion music by Charles Avison and Handel. Bamburgh Castle is the perfect setting for the concert as it has strong links with the Jacobite Rebellion of 1715.

We're celebrating our first anniversary of joining Flickr and want to show you the amazing venues we've played and recorded in during the year, most of them in the North East region and some in London. Thanks to all of you who've joined us for concerts in these beautiful venues and for looking at our photos. Here's to another great year coming up of concerts, images and films. Hope to see you soon and look forward to sharing more inspiring images with you ... Our next concert is in Bamburgh Castle and we've included some images of this stunning castle too!

The Avison Ensemble is the outstanding period instrument orchestra based in Newcastle upon Tyne, which plays and popularises the music of Charles Avison (1709-1770) and other English classical composers of the Baroque period, such as Garth, Arne and Herschel. The Ensemble also performs Purcell, Handel, Vivaldi, Corelli, Geminiani, Pergolesi, Teleman, Rameau, Bach, Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven.

Model is Heaphy AKA Mr Jonathon Nightshade ( a fellow member of my troupe). Vampire themed, fangs weren't visible in the photos unfortunately... though I didn't want to make the series too obvious.

A massive hall filled with Classical statues, mostly Roman I think.

Must be hundreds of pieces there.

Brijmohan Mishra popularly known as Pandit Birju Maharaj (born February 4, 1938) is the leading exponent of the Lucknow Kalka-Bindadin gharana of Kathak dance in India. He is a descendant of the legendary Maharaj family of Kathak dancers, including his two uncles, Shambhu Maharaj and Lachhu Maharaj, and his father and guru, Acchan Maharaj. Even though dancing is his first love, he also has an excellent command over Hindustani classical music and is an accomplished vocalist as well. He took Kathak to new heights by choreographing new Kathak dance dramas. He is also the founder of Kalashram. He has toured extensively across the globe, given thousands of performances and held hundreds of workshops for kathak students.

Originally built in 514 BCE, Suzhou has over 2,500 years of rich history, and relics of the past are abundant to this day. The city's canals, stone bridges, pagodas, and meticulously designed gardens have contributed to its status as one of the top tourist attractions in China. Since the Song Dynasty (960-1279), it has also been an important centre for China's silk industry.

The classical gardens in Suzhou were added to the list of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1997 and 2000. Suzhou is often dubbed the "Venice of the East" or "Venice of China".

This year's Avison Ensemble Young Musicians' Awards 2018 Winners’ Concert was held on Saturday 28 April 2018 at the Literary and Philosophical Society, Newcastle.

Winners from this year’s Awards performed and they were also presented with their trophies, certificates and music vouchers, as well as a year’s membership of the Literary and Philosophical Society’s Library.

On view during the Concert was one of Charles Avison’s music Workbooks. Autograph manuscripts by Avison were practically unknown until the Avison Ensemble acquired his two autograph music Workbooks in 2002. The Workbooks provide a rare glimpse into how Avison and other 18th century composers devised their music, as well as containing previously unknown pieces by Avison and transcriptions of music by others. These manuscripts are therefore of great importance both to the cultural history of Newcastle and the North East and to our understanding of the musical world in England in the 18th century.

The Avison Ensemble is highlighting the existence and importance of the Workbooks through a series of events and learning projects in Newcastle and the North East with funding awarded by The Heritage Lottery Fund. www.hlf.org.uk/

The Awards were set up in 2006 to encourage young musical talent across the North East Region. The annual Awards is not a music competition but rather an opportunity for young players to perform in front of a live audience and to receive encouragement and support from professional musicians. The entrants to the Awards receive tuition and guidance, as well as important encouragement to continue their musical education. Everyone taking part in this event is given the same expert advice and assessments. The finalists are also assessed on their talents for live performance.

We’re grateful to the Heritage Lottery Fund for supporting this year’s Awards as part of our Charles Avison Workbook project. The support of the HLF also enabled us to show one of Avison’s original manuscript Workbooks as part of the event. It’s important to us that through his Workbook Avison was present during the Awards to support today’s local young musical talent! @HeritageLotteryFund

We're also grateful to the Literary and Philosophical Society for hosting this year's Finals and for generously presenting each of the winners with a year's membership. www.litandphil.org.uk

Early views of this space show a green lawn dotted with sculpture. It later became the Fountain Restaurant one of the grandest spaces in New York for people on a budget to enjoy. The entire area inside the columns was a pool and fountain showcasing “Aganippe: The Fountain of Muses” by Carl Milles 1951-55. The fountain did not pass the cool test and in 1982 was sold to Brookgreen Gardens, South Caroline where it is exhibited outdoors.

The new configuration is very attractive but I miss the fountain.
