After the rain not half an hour earlier, in typical British fashion, bright sunshine broke out for the passage of 90014 ‘Over the Rainbow’ and 90044 on the homeward bound leg of the 0Z90 1309 Crewe Bas Hall S.S.M. to Crewe Bas Hall S.S.M. which ran out to Carnforth and straight back again on Wednesday 5th August 2020. Presumably checking that the new livery works properly on each Skoda.
I see that the small silver birch tree that was along the side of the line here has gone missing.

Class 90 039 sits in platform 16 at Euston prior to working 1Z85, 07.29 'Pride of Planning' special to Carlisle.
The train was organised by Network Rail to celebrate the work undertaken by it's own train planning staff, as well as those from various train companies throughout the country. The train was formed of 9 MkII coaches, mainly in BR style blue and grey livery, but also two ex Anglia liveried vehicles on the front. The formation was supplemented by two MkI catering vehicles, one in blue and grey livery and one in old Great Western colours. 67 005 'Queen's Messenger' was on the rear of the train, and would haul 1Z85 over the Settle & Carlisle line. The return working, 1Z86, being scheduled to run via Shap.

Here we see 90019 looking immaculate at London Euston on the day she was named "Penny Black" by Bill Cockburn. Back in those days, my photography skills were somewhat primitive. According to the records, it looks like this was taken on the 1/5/1990.
A beautiful summer's day (!!) sees 90128 powering north with an FLT working. I assume the service was destined for Felixstowe because I saw this loco about an hour later stabled on Ipswich stabling point, a diesel loco presumably having taken the train to its destination.
90128 has today (Jan 22) reverted to her original number of 90028 and is in the employ of DBS. She can be seen just about anywhere on the WCML painted in her DBS red livery.
90 040 with 90 018 in multiple behind sit in Eden Valley Loop for a booked pathing stop on the West Coast Mainline. Despite being a 75mph class 4 freight these days the line is increasing filling up with passenger trains so more freights get relegated to overnight. They are working 4M25 06.06 Mossend Euro Terminal to Daventry and will soon have the standing start up the 1/125 gradient which is noticeable as the train recedes into the distance on the curve. The loop here being a little over a mile into this seven mile continuous rising gradient before it eases at Shap village before the final ascent to Shap Summit at 916ft.
