We met up in Orlando with Nobu and Ayumi for the evening. Nobu treated us to dinner at Margaritaville.

Newport Chowder Cook-Off 2007
This photo illustrates a radical change in the definition of what constitutes a "chowder". Last year this very same concoction was located squarely in the "Creative" category, this year for some reason it was shifted over to the "Seafood" category.
While it did contain shrimp, it also contained cherise, (the local New England version of chorizo), and on top of that, it's clearly not white or cream-based in any way. There must have been a shortage of "seafood" chowders this year, because this belongs in the 3rd category, in my opinion.

Nick's #5 on the wharf has great chowder, creamy, not pasty thick. It has a Sweet Clam taste, not that strong old fishy rubber clammy taste that you often come across. Now most people like theirs in a bread bowl. I prefer to order a pint container. If you are known to tip and are well liked you may be offered a 1/4 loaf of day old sour dough, which I did get.
If you get lucky like me, tear up a few pieces to soak and sop up about 1/4 of the container. Then, tear up the rest of the crusty bread into bite-sized chunks & throw it into the container, walk to a nice spot to sit to do the spoon work. If 16 ounces of this with 4 ounces of sourdough does not do it for you as a filling meal you eat too much.
Neil's Harbour - made a side trip to grab a bowl of chowder at the Chowder House. There was live music playing at the lighthouse so it was great to enjoy the food music and views.
A steaming bowl of chowder and a slice of buttered sourdough bread. This turned out fantastically yummy!
(And because it contains onions and peppers, The Daughter wouldn't even try the chowder she helped make. Sad....)
