there are many paula deen recipes that i would never make (her ham, banana, and potato chip casserole, for instance). however, this recipe is unbelievably good. we make it without celery, add hot sauce to our individual servings, and top it with homemade croutons. (tex makes those with whatever leftover bread we have laying around which, this time, was the heel of a boule from the local bakery).
lunch of potato & mushroom chowder with homemade bread.

we intended to compete in the sunday chowder race yesterday, despite the light wind and knowing that the tide would be too low for us to cross the finish line (the water would be too shallow for our keel) -- but in fact the water was too shallow for us to even get to the start line!! we started dragging in mud a bit, and so turned away & skipped the race.

a couple of weeks ago at Quilt Guild holiday potluck, a lady made this pot of shrimp chowder was to die for. I have been wanting to come up with my own. It was fabulous...my 10-year-old say "between this and ice-cream, I'll have this any day!"
Jay was not happy that I only made enough corn chowder for dinner and his Mr Bento lunch. I think that means he liked it!
