Ice & steam & the skyline. all things considered, this is pretty amazing.

Set Description: I couldn't help myself. I bundled up and took a quick walk along the lakefront to catch the steam rising off Lake Michigan. Freezing is an understatement. my fingers were numb after just 15 minutes - through 2 layers of gloves. My eyelashes, eyebrows, face mask, and hat even grew icicles

A massive 7-frame vertical panorama of the Chicago skyline shortly after sunset. Does it get any better?

Set Description: I took a stroll along the lakefront to photograph the BCBS building's Stanley Cup lightning scheme and got a whole lot more.

Last night's weather was absolutely perfect to capture 'Chicagohenge' -or- the sunset on the day of the equinox.

#Chicagohenge depicts the equinox in an interesting way. On the first day of autumn (and spring), the sun appears to set right at the horizon between the concrete canyons of Chicago's east/west streets - an modern nod to Stonehenge.

The equinox itself isn't a day, but the exact moment the sun crosses the celestial equator. Last night, the equinox happened precisely at 9:29pm.

About the photo: This image required a two frame composite to active the detail in the buildings & foreground. The frames were taken as a part of a bracketed exposure. One frame properly exposed the disc of the sun, while the other frame properly exposed the buildings & foreground.

Despite the winds and clouds, it was a beautiful day for a Seadog ride.

Set Description: Well, I tried to get to the lakefront in hopes of catching an errant waterspout off of Chicago's shores, but conditions just weren't right in the immediate area. Of course, I didn't leave empty handed

After 3 attempts, I was finally able to catch the sunset during the autumnal equinox. As the sun sets it's visible through the concrete canyons of the city - affectionately knows as Chicagohenge.
