Adapted slightly from a recipe in The Flying Brownie by Shirley Fan, these cheese crackers are laced with chili pepper, black pepper and oregano. They're delicious with Watermelon or Crabapple Jelly!
Yesterday, I made a marinade for Easy Sweet Chicken Wings that we devoured at dinnertime. They turned out so well that I was only able to grab one left on the plate…they went that quickly. I think next time I will marinate either the chicken breast or chicken skinless thighs in order to ge...

I'll post the actual recipe if he tells me where it is.
Looks like con carne, but that's actually bulgur in there. Delicious and filling on a cold winter night.

I am sure hers were much more spicy.
Doran is in the midst of a love affair with chili recipes, and tonight's is "Lemon-Wine Chili" from a woman in Sacramento (recipe found in "Chili Lovers' Cookbook" by Golden West publishers). 9/15 ingredients are spices, here photographed: chili powder, salt, lemon pepper, black pepper, cayenne pepper, dry mustard, celery seed, cumin, and oregano.
I took this photo because of both personal and historical reasons (and cool colors). Spices evoke memories of my first attempts at cooking, or my first realization that cooking could be a fulfilling creative outlet. It was through Madhur Jaffrey's first cookbook, "An invitation to Indian Cooking," in my last few months of high school.
Spices are also interesting, since they were part of the West's grand awakening that we were not the universe's navel, and they are an important symbol of the things that today's locavores are forsaking. I have a lot of empathy with locavores -- the promotion of farmer's markets, ethical food shopping, and the awareness of your role in this much larger, powerful food system. However, as with any movement, it becomes scary when its radicals demand that we not only shun but demonize some of God's greater gifts to mankind... like cumin. I'll agree to do away with systems of manipulative industrial meat production (sadly, most American meat production), because I believe that those systems go against a healthy global equilibrium, but I also think that it's entirely possible to respect the planet, fight global poverty, and appreciate our creator's gifts by importing spices. Or wine. or chocolate.
So thank you Lord for creating spices and for helping us develop the technology and global relationships to share your gifts.
Adapted from The Beeroness, this is a sweet, tangy, garlicky, oniony, beery mop or smear perfect for anything - veggies, tofu, chicken, pork or beef!
day 13: yes, the kitchen again. but hey, it was hot, i didn't want to drive anywhere, and i didn't see anything worth seeing when i went to the store tonight. when i resort to these kitchen macros, i'm at least trying to put some more effort into setup, trying to make them a little more studio-ish. the spices proved to be fairly malleable, at least when i was using precision tweezers to arrange everything.
I probably don't eat as much spicy food as all the chili powders in this picture would lead you to believe...
The best come from Hatch, New Mexico - known to be addictive and can trap people to coming back to N.M. for more .
Assignment #1 Zing. Dictionary.com has a few definitions, but we shouldn't get too hung up. vitality, animation, or zest. Tag with cwd501.
Nothing like a dash of chili powder to add a bit of zing to your meals. I wanted to do Cayenne, but couldn't find any at the grocery store.
And with some grated Cheddar (it looks a lot but it's not really much).
It was surprisingly yummy :)
(But it became a little messy :\)

I was surprisingly pleased with these flavors. It is a dried mango covered in a sugar & chili powder mix. The only thing that could make it better would be salt too - I think that would bring out the contrast between the sweet and spicy more.
2kg each of boneless skinless chicken thighs and breasts. Will be cooked in slow cooker at track side.
