CHILDHOOD: Me with some of my friends, jenna and one of Luke's friends in the pool. (Notice the butt in the background?)
In the summer of 2005 Glasgow Celtic signed their first Japanese player, Shunsuke Nakamura. By coincidence I was the only member of the Tokyo Celtic Supporters Club in Glasgow at the time, and got to make a presentation on behalf of the CSC to the player at Celtic Park. Shunsuke Nakamura was very kind and seemed to be a down-to-earth guy. I was honoured to meet him, but to be honest getting to walk down the players' tunnel and stand on the pitch was more thrilling for me. This is a stadium my Dad took me to as a boy. I never thought I would one day be able to stand on the pitch with my own children. That summer I was able to fulfill a childhood dream.
There is a garden in every childhood, an enchanted place where colors are brighter, the air softer, and the morning more fragrant than ever again. ~Elizabeth Lawrence

Former dalmeny pub. This is where my dad got his cheekbone broken by my uncle over pointless argument with the publican.Christmas eve 1985.
Our family lived at this house from 1965 to 1976.
I don't remember it, but my brother describes the last time my dad threw his mother-in-law (Grandma Mary) out thusly: "He grabbed her by the scruff of her neck and led her out the front door and down the steps. It was amazing. If he had just thrown a bucket of water, I am pretty sure she would have dissolved. Our Mom was Alpha and her mother, poor creature, Omega." The first time dad threw her out it was January of 1958, Mom was in the hospital giving birth to that brother, and Grandma Mary had beat me up over potty training, sending me to that same hospital after being rescued by my Aunt Blanche.
Every year my cousins and I used to ride this; sometimes multiple times. Around and around, both forwards and backwards. We'd scream and laugh until we cried, as everyone but the lightest one was squished.
Do you remember those times when you were thinking about life and death (and what that all means, and why people's heart suddenly stopp beating), when all you were interested in were ice cream and cartoons, when nature, diamonds and thunder-storms were more interesting than computer-games. Well welcome to childhood, or at least my childhood. The only thing missing right now are those Lego figures.
Statement of the day: Childhood rocks! Hell yeah!
