Donkey Rides for children were a common sight on many UK beaches when I was a child & I remember the thrill & excitement of shrieking children pestering their parents for rides up & down the beach. Sadly, some of the donkeys were overworked & not very well looked after but this was corrected when animal protection organisations stepped in & rules concerning the working animals were introduced. Nowadays it is a rare sight to see donkeys working on beaches so it brought back many happy childhood memories to see these on the beach in Llanelli, Wales.
I am not sure what the little sticker/poster was for, but it brought memories. Those red rooster lollipops are part of my childhood.
I was at my parents' house on january the 1st. I was browsing my childhood LEGO and shoot some photos.
Here are some pictures from the catalogs and instruction booklets I found.
Also I have the booklet of the Castle (375) but can not find the picture I did.
A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove…but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child. ~ Forest E. Witcraft
I don't remember much about my childhood, but what I do remember I hold close to me. For this reason I find it necessary to shower upon those young hearts I know love abundantly. It has long been my belief that children need adults in their lives who understand the fragility of childhood; adults who are committed to their physical, psychological, social and emotional safety. Only then do we guarantee a world befitting of their spirit. Only then do they begin to live...

Memories of childhood.
Swingsets and pumping of the legs to make you go as high as you can always bring me back to the days of being a kid. I reflect on these days a lot and I have to say that I am very lucky to have really great childhood memories. Growing up in a neat suburb in the humid Georgia weather with my family was really fun. The things that stand out the most are rollerskating on the street, playing Steve Miller on the record player in my room, exploring in the woods, riding with my sister on her horse (I only half believed her when she said she would push the eject button on the saddle if I was bad or that the brakes were going out when we were going down a steep hill in her yellow NOVA), kissing the Andy Gibb poster in my closet, riding on my brother Mark's back down the hallway laughing uncontrollably, getting noogies from my other brother Kurt....
So many good times.
The only time I remember my parents really yelling during these years were when I dropped a whole gallon of milk while ( I saw it bounce down every step in slow motion spewing milk *everywhere*) running up the stairs from the basement fridge and when my studly brother Kurt went out to talk to some hot chick while filling his waterbed and flooded the entire basement and I think both of those times called for yelling....so I thank them for that.
I remember dinners together each night and laughing at the Muppets afterward on Sundays, cruising to Florida each summer in my dads Caddy listening to 8 tracks, swimming at the pool and running up and down the golf course at night catching fireflies. So much magic.
When I see people doing bad things, I know they didn't have the childhood I had and I feel sad. I feel like a big part of my happiness has to do with that. I know and think about how fortunate I am in that respect.
It's no wonder why 70's music moves me so much. And awesome that this just came on the Pandora.

This is a photo of the swing set at a park by my house, grass hopper bridge park. I took this picture Wednesday after school. grew up going to this park and it did not work perfectly for what I was going for but I like the way it turned out. I wanted to take this picture of an old, used swing set and write memories on it. My idea included the sky and background in it but the park was too distracting so I just got the sand in the background to keep it simple. I was really looking forward to having a nice exposure of a dark, cloudy sky or even just a sunset but unfortunately it did not workout. I feel that this is a bit bland but it was all I had. I feel that this photo could be enhanced but I am unsure as to how. I think if there was a kid in it, there would be more to it. I do like the shadows that I got on the sand, I took this around 5:00. This looked a lot better in my head but I struggle with the whole idea of text in photos.
Sweaty hands and dirty faces, running carefree to new places
Tank tops, collars winged and wide, bursting with our childish pride
Getting down and dirty fast, win at all costs, don't come last
Action man dolls, cowboys guns, scooters downhill, boy what fun!
Best friends call and we're together, causing havoc, hell for leather
'Knock down ginger', ring that bell, cover yards and run like hell
Tarmac kings we do the miles, venture places, lots of smiles
Need a wee so take a leak, spy on girls and take a peek
Chocolate bars and cigarettes, swearing like we've got tourettes
Trousers bulge with pocket money, in the joke shop it's so funny
Stink bombs to let off in class, fake scars cool, we'll kick some arse
Life it seems goes on forever, fun and frolics, sod the weather
We're captains, soldiers, rulers, kings, lords and masters, everything
Imaginations that run riot, just one level, it ain't quiet
Boys to men one day we'll be, but right now we're raucous, free
Life's a game for us to play and manhood knocks another day
At the park we scream and shout, flexing muscles, lips that pout
Showing off to girls from school and thinking that we're kings of cool
Fake tattoos, Brut Thirty Three, dirty hands and bloodied knees
Starsky, Hutch, the 'A' team cool, flares and long hair are so cool
Adventures, games and classroom jinks, knowing looks and subtle winks
Football during dinner hour, score the winner, feel the power
Chatting up the girls at break, promises for promise sake
Balls will drop and stubble grow, but for now let's leg it, go
Life is short, must seize the day for soon your childhood goes away
Let the kids be kids for longer, build their character much stronger
Memories are made as such and adulthood comes soon and much
Will change, responsibility weighs so, hear the laughter, let it flow

Will you ever go to school? Will you have water to have a bath everyday? Will you have meals to feed on when you are hungry? Things which most of us take for granted!

This display which was part of the Christmas Decorations at Chatsworth this Xmas is very much my formative childhood years....1970s....''Bagpuss'' - how I loved that cat, Prof Yaffle and the Mice on the organ.
Brings back so many memories......happy ones apart from when he went to sleep at the end of the children's programme which Bagpuss was, sadly I thought he had died and started crying according to my mum !!
