The Bloch Brothers sold their West Virginia Tobacco under the brand of "Mail Pouch". Most of their advertising was done in the Ohio Valley, as that's where most of their customers where. Interesting to see this one in Detroit, which itself had a competitive local Tobacco market until the mid-20s. Not sure how old it is but would imagine it would have been painted after 1930 ( and Walker and Company - the company that painted the sign - was purchased and renamed in 1961 so it predates that year ) . The odds are this beauty was painted here, another building was built next to it, and it wasn't re-exposed until the demolition of the building that blocked it.
The drivers of 2-10-0 'Kriegslok' locomotives, 33-236 and 33-504, have a chat whilst stationary at the Sikulje loading point. 33-236 on the left is on shunting duties with a rake of empty wagons, whilst 33-504 on the right, heads a charter train organised by Michael Schneeberger ("Migu") of Migureisen. Sikulje, Tuzla, Bosnia Herzegovina.
It's not my usual inclination to make direct political statements on these bike centric posts, but whenever I see an image of Donald Trump it makes me think of an old Mose Allison song. www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCpekvOkwNM
A piece of Timothy grass glistens in the morning light. Do you remember plucking out a piece of Timothy grass and chewing on the end when you were younger???
See light box view.
Lucy chewing the tape on a box. She especially enjoys chewing plastic tape.
Since she wasn't eating the tape or hurting herself, of course I took a few photos before moving her and recycling the box.
Local newspaper 'The Southport Visiter' ran successful annual charters from the mid 1980's to the early 90's. Jubilee's, Black 5's and finally 'Flying Scotsman' were the traction with experienced Newton Heath and Southport footplate crews.
In September 1989, immaculate double chimney Jubilee 45596 'Bahamas' was rostered and here she climbing the stiff grade from Lostock Junction to Westhoughton.
A Jubilee in full cry, what a wonderful sight and sound as the three cylinder roar builds to a crescendo!
A recent visit to Chester Zoo. The zoo first opened in 1931. I have been visiting the zoo since the late 1960s.
I went back to Chew Moor yesterday for the 47's which were opposite way round from last week 47790 slowes for the stop at Lostock with 2Z08 10.45 Chorley Manchester Victoria.

At the Paprihaven observatory, super-hero Hardcase spots Godzilla Force agent Margaret O'Brien. He decides to strike up a conversation and maybe impress her.
"Wow, there are all the moon phases. There's the Waxing Gibbous."
"A waxen gibbus!? They think the moon is made out of wax?? And what's a gibbus, anyway?"
"Oh! Um... it's just one of the moon phases. I mean, you're an astronaut or something like that, right?"
"No. Why would you think that? And what's all this about waxing and gibbuses??"
Hardcase suddenly regretted starting the conversation.
"I saw your armor... it looked spacey."
"Spacey!? I'm with the Godzilla Force! We fight Godzilla!"
"Oh... yeah, cool. Anyway, good to see you."
"Do you really think the moon is made of wax??"
"Nope."

The Paprihaven moon is not made of wax, but there are some questionable events going on there!

There's also... a beagle on the moon. At times.

Okay, fine! The Paprihaven moon is pretty weird.
Chew valley lake, in the Mendip Hills. Taken on a not so sunny day. Still least it gave me this rather dramatic photo.
Loved watching these three monkeys. They were like three old men sitting on a park bench chewing the fat!
Gotta post and run, will visit all my contacts as soon as I get a chance. HSS everyone and have a great Sunday!
ODC: Teeth
This pair of galahs at Dru Point, Margate, Tasmania, are chewing the bark on this eucalypt. Apparently this is usually engaged in by paired birds, taking place most often near the present or proposed nest-hollow, and is often accompanied by wing-flexing and head-bobbing.
It is also food-related, as Galahs and other cockatoos seek the cambium sap under the bark.
