This tree is at high elevation on top of a mountain in Japan so it blooms much later than other cherry trees. It's apparently close to 400 years old.

Cherry trees dedicated to the many victims (approximately 100,000 people) of the Great Tokyo Air Raid on March 10, 1945.Many people have jumped into this canal to escape purgatory and died.
Quite some years ago it was just a little cherry twig which started rooting in a vase - planted it in my little garden and never thought it would grow so much :-))

We spent some days in Kyoto, Japan. Timing was perfect for Hanami, or cherry blossom viewing. After witnessing sunset at the iconic Kiyomizu-dera Buddhist temple, we went to nearby Ninenzaka, a charming pedestrian area known for its classic architecture, tea houses & cherry blossoms. Later at night I walked over to Maruyama Park, which was quite busy with Hanami. There was no wind, perfect for a reflection shot over a pond.
I processed a balanced and a paintery HDR photo from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

According to the park’s website, the Gongendo Sakura Embankment was first built around 1576, during Japan’s Sengoku period (SHŌGUN era).
The Gongendo River was notorious for flooding, and repeated breaches caused damage as far as Edo (modern Tokyo), about 70 km away.
Because it helped protect Edo, the embankment has been carefully maintained ever since.
On our walk from Bowil to Chaneltal, Hargarten and back to Bowil we saw lots of cherry trees, and to our surprise cherries were not even picked but left to fall to the ground, overripe. We have a cherry tree in our garden but can never eat a single cherry because the birds always finish them off when they are still green ...
The first trees to bloom besides the magnolias.

EN: A new taste of Japan close to Paris
FR : Nouvel intermède végétal, botanique et arboricole, en attendant impatiemment la sortie hypothétique du confinement pour photographier autre chose que des animaux et des plantes !..
Les paysages en N&B ne sont plus très répandus depuis 1935 et l'invention du Kodachrome, et donc rares sur le Net (la nature est en couleurs, et s'en priver est toujours un peu dommage) mais je tente néanmoins l’exercice, facilité ici par le contraste entre les fleurs blanches des cerisiers et la rivière plus obscure.
