check out those cheeseballs!

Merry Christmas from my family of Super Heroes. It has been a ridiculously difficult year, but we are all still standing. I am very proud of my family and missing my Calvin with every breath. RIP, Son. you are very loved and missed.

Thirty : Cheeseball

The snow has been melting and the kids have been wanting to go outside. Ella wants to run, ride her bike, and explore. Charlie wants to do one thing...CHEESEBALL!!! You see, he calls any game involving a ball cheeseball. He loves to get a golf club or bat and swing away! It's amazing how many times he actually hits the ball.

This 30 Days of Winter series has been awesome! It has been fun looking for times to capture our kids personalities and then thinking of what to write with each picture. I can't wait to print all of these out as 30 full page prints with the captions! I will post a few pictures of the book when we get it. I look forward to doing a few other smaller series very soon and another 30 day series in the Summer! Thank you for all of your kind comments throughout this series.

The Straite Family strives to be as American as we can be. Roadside America is not a passing fancy, its not something one does if they are board. Roadside America is a requirement to be American. Mark Twain once said "You have to see the Thing, the biggest ball of yarn, and as many roadside attractions as possible in order or be American" If one does not take every possible opprtunity to hit any, and every, cheeseball roadside haunt they pass, they are virtually a communist.

Well Meredith Miller (MRSPL) wins our vote for who'd we wish we were quarantined with right now. Clockwise from top left, we've got

- an Easter, Bunny Butt Funfetti Cheeseball

- a lasagna with homemade meat sauce (and we quote: "While quarantined I have made 13 quarts of chicken soup and 20 quarts of meat sauce for pasta ‘n such."),

- Meredith in mask making mode while watching the NFL draft (though she'd *sooner* be watching actual football we'd imagine)

-and finally a s'moratine: "To make a s’morantine one puts a shmear of peanut butter on a graham cracker and a shmear of frosting (flavor of your choice) on another graham cracker. Then sprinkle mini marshmallows on one graham cracker and sandwich it all together. "

Ok Meredith, you win.

This is a high energy 80s and 90s cover group called Cheese Balls. Very good and lots of fun.

Rocklin had their Jubilee this weekend. For a small town this is a huge event drawing 20,000 people plus.

Saw these at H-E-B (Supermarket) they are cheese, covered in yellow colored coconut, slivered almonds for noses, not sure about the eyes, perhaps chocolate chips.

This shot was kind of an accident. This is one of the roses on the bush outside my house (I suck at taking care of plants, I can't even believe they've survived). I didn't think it would turn out well at all, as the wind was blowing them around quite a bit. I kinda like it. Roses...I know, I'm a cheeseball.

CM: So, based on the above I can't really claim to have had a specific aim. I guess just to take a nice photo of a rose. ;-)

“Kaptein” Kurt fails to inspire Springboks to win

The South African rugby team, the Springboks, are feared and respected for their uncompromising, physical playing style.

It came as a surprise when News24 reported that Kurt Darren, an Afrikaans pop cheeseball renowned for disco-lite hits Loslappie, Meisie Meisie and Kaptein Span die Seile was selected to hand out the players’ jerseys before a crucial Tri-Nations clash against the Australian Wallabies at their stronghold in Brisbane.

Darren, not one to shy away from free publicity, latched on to the occasion, trying to draw a parallel between his strangely successful career and the monumental task facing the Springboks.

“Music and rugby reflect the psyche of the South African population”, mused the self-professed rugby fan, adding that “the music industry is tough” and that he knows what it is like to go through tough time.

Darren’s presence failed to inspire the Springboks as they slumped to a 30-13 defeat to their Antipodean hosts.

These days aren't really in consecutive order, but that's alriight. It's the thought that counts in my opinion :)

My mom deemed today as family day, so flickr meet my dad. He's the biggest cheeseball. He's the kind of guy that laughs so hard at his own joke that he can't even tell it. Causing the joke to be ruined. Buttttt, I love him :)

So mii familia went to some random museum that was sorta interesting and then we went out to lunch in hicktown. My dad got frog legs which are awkwardly weird looking. My brother got gator tail which didnt even look like what I expected. My mom got fried catfiish. & I got a cheeseburger. hahaaha

I would just like to sayyy...63 DAYS TILL GRADUATION!! :D

As a groomsman, Vicky had a choice whether she wanted to party with the men or the women. She chose women because they were going dancing, and had promises of cheeseballs.

In the Museum's Hall of Pacific Peoples there's an Easter Island Head (just like in the Night in the Museum movie).

my brother, bryan and bryan's brother... they kinda look alike don't they?

"You were my strength when I was weak

You were my voice when I couldn't speak

You were my eyes when I couldn't see

You saw the best there was in me

Lifted me up when I couldn't reach

You gave me faith 'coz you believed

I'm everything I am

Because you loved me"

Hahaha...ok this is super cheeseball-y! Got inspired who frequently quotes me stupid ballad lyrics when I'm whining about random things in my life.

I took this camera granted for a while when my bro loaned it to me when he got his D300...2.5 years ago. I didn't use it fully until last year when it became an almost daily ritual and I met the Flickr crew. It's a great learning camera and thankfully it was available to me. Thanks Jon and D70! Now I've "finally" got my a new camera, the D90 and can't wait go shooting with it. :-)

Missing my mini redneck monkeys. Christmas is too far away. :(

Apparently you DO become more like your parents as you get older, as these once-considered-lame, perennial-favorites-of-mothers-everywhere gloves now seem perfectly suitable and downright practical.

The child treats school pictures like headshots. Which who knows, may help her current future plans to "be a pink butterfly" when she grows up.

Rosewell? Yes please.

Matthew and Drew are very much alike. They have a blast together.

Sometimes, my daughter surprises even me.

This is where I can find my joy and passion for life again. She is my everything!

Tonight was her kindergarten graduation. Yeah, they are a little cheeseball, but man was it fun and emotional.

I love this kiddo. And I'm so proud of her.

She never told us she was going to be singing and the main narrator for graduation. She nailed every line and genuinely had fun with all of it. You never know pride until you have a kiddo to be proud of.

P.S. Make sure you stick around watching until the 20 second and 50 second marks. Those are the solo verses she sings. :-D

Instead of making cookies, I prepared Christmas day snacks for the long hours between brunch and dinner.
