File under "Too much information," but my dentist didn't bat an eye today when I sheepishly asked if he minded my shooting a self portrait in the chair. This request paled compared to a few he shared with me that have happened over the years for him in his practice. And, the good news is my teeth are in generally good health!
Ari had his 2 month checkup today. 12 pounds, 5 ounces and 24 1/4 inches long! Big Boy! Doc says he's in the 50% for weight and 75% for height, but I don't know... :)
Poor guy had his very first shot today. He did so good, but I sure did hate it for him! We did the Hib, Polio, and DTaP today - we're waiting until next month for some of the others!

We did our final bee checkup this week. They have not produced much
honey or new comb since we harvested during late summer. We decided to
resume their sugar water feeding for the winter months. There is still
a little traffic going through their door, but nothing like this
summer where a 100 bees would patiently wait in line to get back into
the hive.

Well, we had our annual checkup at the vet today and we got the doggy obesity lecture. Ginger is 3 pounds overweight. She's 13.4 pounds and should be around the 10 mark. That's a lot for a little dog...about 30% too much. YIKES! I bought special diet food and diet treats and we have to go back for a weigh-in in a couple of months. I still love you Ginger! lol

MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS
One in five Canadians will experience a mental health problem or illness in their lifetime; mental health problems or illnesses also indirectly affect many Canadians through a family member, friend or colleague.
Stigma or discrimination attached to mental illnesses presents a serious barrier, not only to diagnosis and treatment but also to acceptance in the community.
Approximately 70 per cent of mental health problems and illnesses have their onset during childhood or adolescence. Identifying the signs early and getting connected to tools and support is the most important way to prevent problems from becoming worse. Mental health problems and illnesses can be treated effectively.
These statistics were compiled from information available through the following websites: Mental Health Commission of Canada, Canadian Mental Health Association, and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.
MINDCHECK.CA
Mindcheck.ca features the personal accounts of Kevin Bieksa, interactive quizzes and information, and connections to resources and local services. To broaden the reach and increase public awareness and support for mental health issues, BC residents had the opportunity to add their video to the “In One Voice” campaign within the site by recording and uploading a pledge.
By enhancing mental health literacy, this partnership has helped improve early recognition of mental health concerns, encourage the use of effective self‐care strategies, and facilitate navigation of mental health services in BC.

" Zuri Gets a Checkup & A New Cast "
CINCINNATI, OH (May 31, 2011) – “Zuri,” the Cincinnati Zoo’s eight-week-old baby giraffe, received her first checkup since injuring her leg on May 19. Zoo keepers and veterinarians performed the one-hour procedure of removing Zuri’s cast, taking X-rays of her leg and putting a new cast on, Tuesday morning.
“Today’s procedure went according to plan,” said David Oehler, Director of Animal Collections at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden. “Zuri’s leg is healing and we will continue to monitor her progress each day.”
Similar to the first procedure, both dad, “Kimba” and mom, “Tessa” were moved to the outdoor exhibit area during the procedure. It will be at least another week, if not longer, before Zoo vets remove this cast and examine her leg again.
“Equine specialists will review today’s X-ray’s,” said Oehler. “Zuri is not out of the woods yet. We are still guardedly optimistic, but Zuri has been a great patient and our staff is doing everything we can to get Zuri back to her energetic self.”
Giraffe Ridge was closed for several hours this morning, but is now open and guests can see Zuri and her mom inside.

I thought I would update the news on little Zuri. I hope and pray that she continues to recover from this broken leg. Please keep Zuri in your thoughts and prayers.
On Friday the 24th June I went for my 3 month checkup. I was all clear which was a massive relief... 3 months prior to this they discovered a malignant lump in my bladder which they removed. I think it was this discovery that started me balancing my work and social life a bit better, and led to my hobby of taking photographs for pleasure rather than just to record events... resulting in my recent activities on Flickr :-)
