I went to the eye doctor today, optomitrist or whatever, regular checkup... out of all the test this was by far the coolest, I put each eye up to a eye scanner, and a green light brightly and quickly scanned from right to left, my eye while dialated.
In the photo you can see, in the center, all the blood vessels coming together, behind this is where my optic nerve is. The small dark mass to the left is the point on the eye where you have the best vision, the name escapes me at this time. The green light is what is, I assume, the light from the green scanning light that is being reflected off of my eye. Normally I guess it would be red or black. This is not photoshopped at all, this is how the image appeared on the doctors' computer screen, and I asked if I could photograph a copy for myself (you may still see some scanlines from the monitor)
On this eye on the right, a small blurry black dot appears. It seems to be a mole, but he examined it manually with a hand tool and could not see it, therefore he deduced that is was an optical anomoly, or some kind of eyeball 'floater'. On the bottom right you can see my eyelashes.
How often do I get the chance to take this self portrait.
One eye is dilated, one normal.
Normally, a sign of some neurological disorder, this is just the result of my checkup after minor surgery to repair a retinal tear in my left eye.
Note to all of you out there reading this: Pay attention to anything different in your vision. These are symptoms that, if heeded early, may save your sight.
I noticed a large new floater in my left eye weekend before last. I knew this is one of the signs of a problem with the retina. No retina, no sight in that eye. So I paid attention and made an early appointment with my opthamologist.
Signs to look out for (from Wikipedia):
- Flashes of light - very brief in the extreme peripheral (outside of center) part of vision
- A sudden dramatic increase in the number of floaters
- A ring of floaters or hairs just to the temporal side of the central vision
- A slight feeling of heaviness in the eye
- A dense shadow that starts in the peripheral vision and slowly progresses towards the central vision
- The impression that a veil or curtain was drawn over the field of vision
- Straight lines (scale, edge of the wall, road, etc.) that suddenly appear curved
- Central visual loss
In my case, a small tear in my retina was repaired using a freezing technique - cryopexy, to tack down the tear.
My eye doc says that the tear is healing up nicely. Another checkup in three weeks and I should be assured that all is right with the eye. For now.
Ever vigilant, because my mother lost her vision to macular degeneration for the last 11 years of her life.
I like to see, and with both eyes.
Just a checkup and cleaning, I go every four months. After the checkup they allow us to take a goody bag of dental stuff. I got a hot pink and white toothbrush.

Ava’s previous two outings in the car were to the pumpkin patch and the arboretum, so she was not pleased the day after her birthday when this car ride ended at the pediatrician’s office for a checkup and a flu shot. She was still sad when everything was done, but I sat her on the exam table for a few pictures before making her give up the reflex hammer. (She got to keep her souvenir tongue depressor, at least.) For the record, she weighed 25lbs 13oz and measured 33.9 inches tall—roughly the same size as I was at 24 months.

Day 49: My lovely fiancee had a routine checkup this morning, so I played the part of chauffeur. This building is part of Kaiser Permanente's 24-acre medical campus in Baldwin Park, California. Unfortunately, with our forecast calling for rain, the skies were overcast and uninteresting looking, leading to a bland backdrop to this photo. However, with rain on its way, I figured I'd better get an early shot to avoid doing another inside-the-house shot.
Back for the usual bi-monthly checkup on Kroger remodel progress, this time at the Horn Lake Schnucks Kroger. Two weeks prior, this wheat design was stenciled in, but not yet painted: flic.kr/p/hshPjt. I think my phone's camera needed a few minutes to adjust after coming in out of the cold, which I didn't think about. Instead I just barged in and started snapping pictures!

The cubs have been receiving weekly checkups to ensure they are healthy. It won't be long before their teeth and claws make this type of handling unsafe, though! They will eventually be trained to participate in routine health procedures, such as vaccinations and blood draws, through a safe barrier.
Justin went in for his 5 year checkup. Julie had our list of things to cover w/ the doctor: immunizations, listening, etc. Doctor figured out he was having trouble hearing . . . there was an airsoft pellet stuck in his ear. She tried to remove it, no luck. He visited UW Children's Hospital's Ear Nose & Throat department this afternoon and they successfully extracted one airsoft pellet from Justin's right ear.
Your BP is reading too high.
This was according to the nurse with the butterfly tattoo on her neck.
She rolled her eyes, took a deep breath, and said..lets take it again.
I was at the docs for what was to be a regular checkup.
They were alarmed enough that I had what they deemed an emergency.
Two doctors said go to the ER.
Take your pick of choices.
And so I drove to the hospital of choice and went to the front desk and took a number.
Much like the way it is at a deli counter except your not always in a sequential formative line.
The ER is a triage.
A deluge of people who are emergent.
Some life threatening.
Car accidents, heart attacks, drug overdoses, shootings, strokes, and loneliness plague the walls.
Sometimes you are lucky to be seen quickly and others you are at the mercy of what is coming in the doors and how many are on staff.
Within 2 hours, I was taken to the back to get bloodwork.
I would get results of that within the hour.
While in the waiting room, I saw plenty of narratives.
Some simple and others complex.
We do have an opioid problem.
A young woman was brought in by two cops.
Her husband had overdosed and she too had a significant amount of stuff in her system.
I saw the officers faces.. It revealed a lot.
There is no privacy in the waiting room.
No curtains and no quiet.
She was stumbling her speech and slurring her words.
She gave a bag to them of white pills and told them who her dealer was.
A caucasian male in his 70s.
Hour 3... I was brought back again to get an X-ray of my lungs.
I came back out to the waiting room and it seemed like
there were more people that were brought in.
I saw many more elderly.
Some in bathrobes and others attached to oxygen tanks.
Their skin color showed that they were unlucky with health.
Jaundiced and oxygen deprived or the liver was failing to filter their own poisons.
Hour 4..I was sent back to a room.
Two female doctors and a male nurse came in to ask questions,
provide feedback on the test results and hopefully send me home.
All tests came back normal except for the BP.
Genetics come into play with all my family members on both sides having BP issues.
The doc wanted me to get on meds.
While it was not life threatening to her, I couldn’t maintain that level of pressure forever.
Meds were given.
They waited a bit to see if I would react and it would go down as it did within the hour.
Low salt diet was suggested.
Low stress was suggested.
Follow up with your doctor.
Hour 6... and I was given the okay to leave.
They unhooked the monitors and I walked back through the hall towards the exit.
Each curtain- filled room, I could hear the beeps and see the faces.
Young and old.
There for some reason.
A system, a triage, a narrative of life and death.
Fixing as much as they can.
One person at a time.
I emerged outside and got in my car as the sun was setting.
Resolute and relieved to no longer be a patient.
Someone else can now take a ticket from the american deli counter.
Given the salt content in deli meats, I no longer will be in that line anyhow.
Wrangler's general health check up revealed him to be in generally good health. He got a couple vaccine shots and an overall positive report from the Vet other than a need to loose a few pounds.
Selasa lepas aku ke GH Penang utk checkups lps bersalin. Sewaktu doktor yg memeriksa aku check perut, muka dia agak pelik. Dia ukur kedudukan uterus dan dpti masih agak tinggi.. lepas tu dia ckp perutku di bhg bawah lebam.. Tetiba aku tingat nurse yg dtg ke rumah beberapa hari sblm tu ckp uterus aku masih agak tinggi (nurse tu pelik gak) tp dia ckp xpe mungkin lmbt sket turun/kecut.
Doktor yg check aku gtau kt another senior doc, and senior doc tu trus suh gi scan. Bila scan, tgk dlm uterus kosong, meaning that xde ape2 dlm uterus, saiz pun ok.. tapi bila check lg.. di luar uterus ada darah beku.. the senior doc trus arahkn doc lg sorang pggil doc pakar.. bila doc pakar dtg, dia tnya aku xrasa sakit ke? aku ckp, mmg rasa sakit tp xdela sakit teruk, lgpun aku ingat yg sakit tu sbb caeser. Doc tu pegang tngn aku dan bandingkan dgn tgn derang, tgk mata aku.. dia tanya aku xdemam? aku ckp tak..
Then, doc tu ckp, xpela.. nmpk cam still ok sbb aku xdemam.. so doc bg aku antibiotics & ckp aku kena dtg blk in one week utk scan semula.. That one week was yesterday.. masa scan, doc yg scan suh another doc amik besar darah beku tu.. by then baru aku tau darah beku tu nmnya Hematoma.. Lepas scan doc tu trus suh aku baring coz dia nk tnya pndpt doc lain.. sambil tu ada 2 org doc tggu sama ngn aku.. sorang laki, sorang pompuan..
Kedua2 org doc ni dok argue antara satu sama lain.. yg lelaki ckp aku patut msk wad balik & disurgery lg utk buang hematoma tu.. yg pompuan ckp xperlu coz masa scan tu menunjukkan hematoma tu reduce in size, tak makin membesar.. Masa tu aku mmg agak takut.. takkanla nk operate lg.. luka hari tu pun belum baik sgt lagi..
Bila doc dtg dia suh aku tunggu kat luar kejab.. aku pun gi kat hubby yg tgh dukung baby eryna, nk cerita kt dia pun aku terketar2.. dlm hati aku risau.. klu aku masuk wad, camne dgn baby?? camne nk nyusu?? hmmm.. Tetiba dua org doc dtg kt tmpt kitorg duduk.. doc tu ckp, sbb hematoma tu tak mmbesar + aku xdemam + xsakit sgt.. aku dibenarkan balik.. tapi klu aku demam.. @ sakit wajib terus ke hospital.. masa tu lega & syukur sgt...kami pun balik ke rumah..
Hari ni hari ke 20 baby eryna.. ptg td.. seorang nurse china dtg utk timbang baby.. alhamdulillah berat baby naik 2.4kg. Bila nurse tu suh aku baring & pegang aku.. dia rasa perut aku.. ehh.. dia xckp, u demam ke? Aku ckp tahlah.. aku xrasa mcm demam.. cuma aku mmg rasa agak sejuk sket & masa hubby nk gi kerja after lunch aku minta hubby selimutkan aku sbb aku rasa sejuk time baring nyusukan eryna.. Nurse tu amik temperature aku dan sah aku mmg demam.. Dia pegang tgn aku dan ckp mmg tgn aku agak panas.. Dia suruh aku terus gi GH masuk wad.. hmmm.. aku mmg xsanggup.. bila dia tgk aku reluctant nk ke GH hari ni, dia ckp, ok.. esok aku mesti pergi Klinik Kesihatan Bukit Jambul utk check dgn doctor sana.. Wajib dia ckp. Aku ckp ok, aku akan sure pergi.. Berulang kali dia tnya, taknak gi GH ke hari ni.. hmmm..
Aku bukan tak nak, tp aku tak boleh imajin nak tinggalkan eryna, mcm mana eryna nk nyusu.. camne hubby nak survive.. mcm2 bermain kt kepala aku ni.. risau sbnrnya.. kdg2 yourself is not important compare to your love ones...
Aku doa2 agar mlm ni kebah demam aku, esok gi klinik xdemam dah.. Frankly speaking aku xleh imajin klu aku kena masuk wad.. :(
Ya Allah.. permudahkanlah urusan kami.. sesungguhnya Engkau xakan memberi ujian yg tidak termampu utk kami tanggung..
