To destress from my study and work, I take 2 or 3 hours break to walk my neighbourhood park or reserve.
Was out last night chasing the aurora borealis. The aurora forecast scale was at a 9 and the field of coverage stretched from north of us to as far south as Seattle, Toronto, and all of the maritime provinces.
So I was expecting big things, like the whole sky being filled. At 10:30 the glow started to appear on the horizon and teased from time to time with some minor flares. By 12:30 am I went home in frustration, with this image the best I could get.
I'm sure that at 2:30 or so they would have been awesome when I was fast asleep. Alas, such is the fate of aurora photographers, it seems.
Philip Vermeulen. Chasing The Dot
The very first museum solo exhibition of the emerging artist Philip Vermeulen can be seen at Rijksmuseum Twenthe until 5 January 2025.
Hypersculptures
In his works, Vermeulen explores the foundations of human perception through movement, light, vibrations and sound. What does light do to our brains, how do we register movement, what does sound feel like, and do we actually see what we think we see? Vermeulen's space-filling installations, which he himself calls 'hypersculptures', seem to transform before the eyes of the viewer, creating a unique and enchanting experience.

The sheer size and scope of this old Victorian mansion makes it difficult to get a handle on photographically. I've been here before and it's literally overwhelming to be in the presence of this house. So many architectural details compete for the eye's attention, coupled with the sheer enormity of the place. Intuition brought me back here yesterday, on a bleak and raw day. My senses were sharpened by the cold. I focused on an old wrought iron sign bracket in the side yard, and allowed the house to recede a bit into the background. I crouched low to enhance the sense of the house looming and brooding. The overall atmosphere could not have been better.
Me and my friend Johan Aurvind went out to chase auroras one night and had quite some success at it. :)
This might have been the last time this season to watch this phenomenon since the sun is setting much later now. In the winter we have very few sun hours. In the spring and summer we have very few dark hours.
Thank you for visiting!
And don't dilly-dally on the way
Managing to get here with two or three minutes to spare........
Against the backdrop of the beautiful Dee Valley, 6880 'Betton Grange' heads past Garthydwr with the 10.00 Llangollen - Corwen on Sat 12th April 2025, day 2 of the Llangollen Railway's Spring Branch Line Gala.
Days are getting shorter, during long summer days this scene would be observed when №603 is arriving near Senneterre around 21:00.
Nonetheless, chasing sunsets is one of my favourite things about working the former NTR mainline going west. The time is 17:49 and the sun is reflecting on the classic stainless steel HEP cars as we're completing our flag stop at Oskélanéo River.
I may not have been posting earlier on in the year when I was going through my Greta Garbo routine, but I was still taking photos.
Here on the North Coast of Northern Ireland, we tend to get the tail end of major storms that hit the Eastern Seaboard in the States.
I knew that if I didn't make the effort and go chase the waves of this particular February storm I would regret it.
I always like going to the breakwater in storms because there are lots of rocks, its deep and it can be a tad hairy because waves come sloshing over the breakwater on both sides because this is also the entrance to the River Bann.
Within minutes of me taking this, the weather changed dramatically (photo in the comments area) and I was out of there because even for me the conditions had become too dangerous.
I thought it was a nice contrast to my last photo of calm, sleepy Church Bay!!
EXPLORED NO.144
Visited a very quite Moraine Lake ("above" Lake Louise). the parking lot at L. Louise was full again so we decided to try our luck at Moraine. No problems parking there. You should have seen it last year, people lining up at the road entrance at 5:00AM to get up to the lake. Like it a bit better this way. ;( though mixed feelings about the reasons !! see date if you remember those times.

Lived the joy that starlight brings
Dreamt and slept in Saturns rings
Spent some time chasing cars
And layed the night counting stars
Tread carefully on your travels
Be at peace as your world unravels
Lasting friends you shall make
Of the ones you have do not foresake
Find the love that you have shown
Leave your scent where your spell has flown
Let moonbeams dance within your eyes
Remember me and starlite skies
And in he heart when all shines bright
The shooting star will catch my sight
While chasing cars and counting stars
Beneath the heavens, those moments ours

My best pal bouncing her way back to me through a field of wheat after chasing a hare…unsuccessful but clearly a whole lot of fun!
Possibly the best walk ever….again!
Trying to capture a flitting and darting Zebra Longwing Butterfly with a handheld long lens can be very challenging and frustrating. My shooting ratio (attrition rate) for this "chase" is 20:1. Arggggh! :(
The Zebra Longwing, Heliconius charitonia (Linnaeus), was designated the state butterfly of Florida in 1996.

My partner in crime snapped this image of myself on Mt Tamalpais East Peak photographing the sunrise. We left the house about 3:30am and made the hour drive to the trailhead. That gave us an hour to climb just over two miles and gain 1900ft elevation with two doggies, breakfast sandwiches and four wine coolers in the dark of night.

The title is actually deceitful, at Mer Bleue, there is no reason to chase the chickadees, just hold you hand out and wait a minute. They'll arrive to collect their toll.
After a couple hours of chipping ice this morning, I ventured out to meet my folks and brother for breakfast and after a quick pit stop at their place to pick up my new winter coat (yay, thanks for finding my size Mom) and visiting with Moki, I ventured out to Mer Bleue for a bit of a walk.
The crispy ice made the walk a bit difficult, but I ran into Gord there and enjoyed the company while we searched for a porcupine. We found him, but we way too high up for a good shot, but still, mission success!
Afterwards, I ran a couple errands and came home to finish chipping the ice away.
It was a mild day, and I'm glad I got to spend the majority of it outside.
Hope everyone has had a good day.
