A section of Bastion Falls on a late winter afternoon. Nearly backlighted, which I don’t get a chance to photograph very often. (And nearly icy, which I didn’t get to photograph very often this winter.)

This is downstream from Kaaterskill Falls, which was my intended subject, but the trail was a sheet of ice in places, so we went only as far as this.

A stretch of railway that has undergone remarkable changes over the years. Earthworks have been undertaken to stabilise the cutting over the last few weeks, as a GCR 180 heads to Crofton depot. Normanton station is in the forest in the background.

Psychologische und mystische Ebene

Das enttäuschte Ego-Bewusstsein möchte die alten Filme verlassen. Das Ende jeder Geschichte führt zur Trennung von überholten Lebensweisen. Ich lebte als Kind, als Schüler, Unternehmer, Leidender, Studierender, glücklicher Mensch. Nach vielen weiteren Stadien befinde ich mich derzeit in einem zufriedenen und entspannten Zustand.

Während eines bestimmten Lebensabschnitts herrscht jeweils eine spezifische Konstellation der Motivationskräfte vor und diese wandeln ihr Verhältnis untereinander. Im Leben selbst ist dieser Umstand daran zu erkennen, dass eine Verlagerung der Interessen stattfindet. Zum Beispiel schätzte man gestern noch den einen Freund, so hat sich die Sympathie zu einem anderen verlagert.

Der Wunsch, aus einem alten Lebensabschnitt heraus zu kommen, entspringt dem zyklischen Wandel der Motivationskräfte. Kann man diesen Wandel akzeptieren, verliert man keine Energie in Widerständen. Daher erscheint es von Vorteil, sich den Wandel der Kräfte bewusst zu machen.

Warum möchte ich meinen Arbeitsplatz mit einem Kollegen tauschen? Habe ich mich in eine Kollegin verliebt, die in der gleichen Abteilung arbeitet? Dann bestimmt die Energie von B4 die Situation. Die Sonne des Eros geht auf und verspricht einen abenteuerlichen Lebensabschnitt. Das Leben als Liebhaber. Ungezügelte Leidenschaften. Ein hohes Maß an erotischer Energie.

Doch B4 versiegt und wandelt sich von der Flut zur Ebbe. Viele Dramen entstehen, wenn man mit allen möglichen Tricks versucht, der verrinnenden Anziehung (Faszination oder Liebe) Einhalt zu gebieten.

Das Leben will sich stetig wandeln auch wenn es immer einmal wieder lange Abschnitte der Stabilität und Kontinuität hat. Ich erlebte viele Jahre, in denen sich nichts zu ändern schien und sie fühlten sich grau und leer und als verlorene Zeit an.

Es gibt das Gefühl von verlorener Zeit und wenn man dieses gerade empfindet, möchte man am liebsten die derzeitige Situation verlassen, doch die Umstände erlauben es vielleicht nicht. Man fühlt sich gefangen.

Wer reicht das rettende Seil? Wie kann man aus alten Filmen aussteigen?

Die neu erscheinenden Motivationskräfte bilden dieses Seil. Und wenn ich die Kräfte wiederum zu ihrer Quelle zurück verfolge, nenne ich diese den Schöpfer. Für den Schöpfer könnte ich Buddha oder Tao sagen. Analog ist für mich der Begriff Bewusstsein. Und dieses göttliche Bewusstsein liegt in jedem einzelnen. Und in diesem geht es auf wie eine Sonne am Morgen.

Welche Ebene des Lebens möchte ich verlassen? Welchen Lebensabschnitt transzendieren? Beziehung? Arbeitsverhältnis? Weltanschauung? Von einer christlich geprägten Weltanschauung kann ein Wechsel hin zu einer buddhistischen geschehen. Von einem abhängigen Arbeitsverhältnis kann ich in die Selbstständigkeit wechseln. Aus einer auf Hass basierenden Beziehung kann ich in eine Liebesbeziehung erfahren. Dies sind nur einige wenige Beispiele für Wandel und Wechsel, für etwas, das auch mit dem Begriff Schicksal umschrieben wird.

Wohin führt das Seil, an dem ich mich in einen neuen Lebensabschnitt ziehe? Die Zukunft ist ungewiss, Idee und Ahnung sind vielleicht vorhanden, doch nichts ist greifbar. Die Vergangenheit bleibt zurück. Und wenn man dem Wandel zustimmen kann, bleibt sie in Dankbarkeit, Anerkennung und Ehre zurück.

Widerstand gegen den Wandel erzeugt Groll und man bleibt im Alten sitzen obwohl die Umstände ständig unbequemer werden.

Die Vernunft rät längst zum Ausstieg aus dem alten Film, doch die Erfahrung der alten Motivationskräfte wie etwa Hass, Eifersucht, Begierde sind vielleicht noch nicht abgeschlossen. Dann bleibt man noch stecken und die Tage schleppen sich dahin. Es ist die Zeit langer dunkler Wintertage. Doch auch diese Zeit unterliegt dem Wandel. Plötzlich taucht ein Seil auf wie aus dem Nichts. Vielleicht ist es nur ein Strohhalm, doch es wird möglich, die Freiheit des nächsten Schrittes zu sehen. Die Frühlingssonne lässt den Schnee schmelzen. Die für lange Monate erstarrte Natur erwacht in eine neue Wachstumsphase.

All jenen, die vor einem Wechsel stehen, wünsche ich ein Seil, einen Helfer, einen Engel. Man schafft nicht alles alleine… ;-)

A short walk out this morning while the kitchen work continues, and the light changes

Behind that silver colored cast cover on the rear end are a pair of meshing spur gears that can be changed in order to alter the final drive ratio of the rear axle. Its common designation is a “quick change rear end.”

In this setup, rotational power input from the engine+transmission enters at the front of the differential housing as it does for conventional drive axles. But unlike the usual setup, the input shaft bypasses engagement with the ring gear and continues to the back where there is a small gearbox at the rear of the differential housing. That small gearbox has an access cover which is what can be seen in the photo above. Within that gearbox are the ends of two shafts - one from the input shaft and a short one above it that’s connected to the bevel pinion that engages the driving ring gear. Each of those two shafts are fitted with spur gears that mesh together to convert rotary motion from the drive shaft to the driving ring gear. Different sets of spur gears can be used in order to change the final drive ratio but they do need to be matched together in order to yield the desired mechanical ratio and to fit in the fixed distance between the two shafts.

The Adélie Penguin is a species of penguin common along the entire Antarctic coast, which is their only residence. They are among the most southerly distributed of all seabirds, as are the Emperor Penguin, the South Polar Skua, the Wilson's Storm Petrel, the Snow Petrel, and the Antarctic Petrel. In 1840, French explorer Jules Dumont d'Urville named them for his wife, Adélie. There are estimated to be a total of 2.4-3.2 million breeding pairs of Adélie penguins; they are distributed around the coastline of the Antarctic continent.
