Climate Corporate Governance for Financial Institutions - Building resilience to climate change risk

During the past decade, with extreme weather causing hundreds of USD billions of

losses per year and the changing climate intensifying the adverse effects of wasteful

practices, environmental considerations have overtaken economic concerns as the

main sources of global risk, according to the World Economic Forum.

Financial regulators and the European Union are responding with recommendations

and guidance on the disclosure of climate-related financial risks to help integrate

sustainability into investor portfolio management. Credit rating agencies are

developing new ways to anticipate how climate-related risks could impact businesses

and financial institutions.

But is this enough?

To assess whether the financial sector is adequately equipped, the EBRD is brought

together representatives from financial institutions to share their practical experience

of the ‘what’ and ‘how’ of climate-related risk management.

The event discuseed ways to achieve an effective investor-led climate response

via climate corporate governance, standards-based climate finance, climate risk

management, climate-related capital market products.

Money changers are a common sight in Afghanistan, sometimes standing on the roadside with fistfuls of cash, waiting for their next customer.

This section of the Berlin Wall sits outside Imperial War Museum London. The colourful artwork with the positive Change Your Life message was created by the graffiti artist 'Indiano', and is said to have been inspired by a Rainer Maria Rilke poem. The colourful front of the Wall was on the West side, whereas the reverse side – facing East – is dull and grey and forbidding.

Finally got a hold of a new Bratz doll. I love it. Also bring Sasha to stores!!

I feel THAT kind of change is coming. When you hear change, don't you think of the dreaded M word? No, not magical or marvelous but MENOPAUSE. Well, I am only moments away from the next hot flash. So, get a grip! (I am telling myself) For the group, Parallel Vision This week's word is Change.

I cannot endure to waste anything as precious as autumn sunshine by staying in the house. So I spend almost all the daylight hours in the open air.

Interventions and innovation can lower the price of individual foods, but healthy eating depends on access to a mix of foods from diverse sources. How has the overall cost of meeting dietary needs changed over time worldwide, and in Africa and South Asia specifically? What determines the cost of a healthy diet? And how does affordability affect dietary intake and health status in different locales?

To answer these questions, Changing Access to Nutritious Diets in Africa and South Asia (CANDASA) has been using new food price indexes that account for food substitutions to meet nutritional needs to evaluate food systems all over the world, including in Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Malawi, and Tanzania.

This seminar will present the outcomes of CANDASA’s work to date, with a panel discussion featuring field researchers from each country to discuss the local and global implications of their results.
