Spent a couple of hours in the Beeches yesterday morning to check on the colour. There is now a definite change on the way especially at the very tops of the tree canopy and trees on the periphery. There was also that lovely damp earthy smell that you tend to get in the Autumn months and certainly more fungi around than previous years. Looking forward to showing around my first 1-2-1 workshop client next week!
These are two Somali Ostriches in the Samburu region of Kenya. They are one of the 'special five' species of the region.
East Africa's landscapes are changing rapidly as a result of the worsening impacts of the climate crisis. More recently other regions of Africa, including Botswana are also being impacted by prolonged droughts.
We're living through a time period where we will ultimately be deciding the fate of future generations of humans and millions of species we share the biosphere with.

The blue house in this Google Earth photo is the same reddish house I shot several years ago - but everything has changed color now! This Google shot is from Aug, 2018, while mine was from March 2016. I do enjoy touring the streets of Cape May via Google Earth! I would never go there in person in August myself, since it's quite crowded then.
Joni Mitchel had it right. We're almost to summer (or winter depending where you are located!) The spiraling changes make me feel dizzy as each day beings new changes.
Clearly this one is from a few weeks ago. I hadn't gotten to photograph one shedding his velvet before. The other two that were with this guy hadn't even started yet.

At each end of the year the geese spend some time here preparing or recovering from their long migration flights. It starts with just a few pairs and ends up with beautiful squadrons in formations almost from horizon to horizon. Taken just after sunrise the early golden light was illuminating the birds from below which created a nice tone.
A pair of Norfolk Southern 4-axle EMDs roll an eastbound underneath the now-removed NYC signals at CP 505 a few years ago. NS GP40-2 3067 used to zip through here in charge of Conrail Van trains as the 3399.
The old speedster has been displaced on the hot trains by newer stuff, but even downgraded, the GP40-2 was still looking good.
