Made this in response to Kira's journal challenge. My journal book is kind of small, so I spread it over 2 pages. Also, I don't have a scanner, so I had to snap a picture......(I am a semi-newbie to art journals.....and as the journaling suggests---I need to fdevelop & find my style, and become more confident and believe in myself...need to learn more...and to learn to confidently let it flow....have fun...) Go easy on me....
Heading into a big surf to challenge the high tide waves. You can take a beating but also get some great rides and feel one with nature. A great sport for men and women and best done with lifeguards on duty.

This is my photo for the 52 in 2018 challenge - #51 - Animal. We are for a mid week break and stayin in Narooma, NSW. In between showers we went for a drive and came across some seals laying on the rocks - how exciting!!
Getting the environment and dangerous levels of pollution under control is one of the many challenges China will be facing in the future (and present).

Wet track, fogged windshield, walls of Armco and an expensive vintage racer. I don't think we as spectators can appreciate the challenges a driver has to deal with, and this is vintage racing! I could be wrong but, I don't think there is money to be made by winning, only expense. In a sense this is a return to motorsports roots when it was done for the sport,

.... a fun photo shoot! Me and Abby challenged each other to take a small photo shoot for a half an hour! Sadly she won and got back first.... so do the same thing with your friends!
Rules: It can be either of yourself (no one else), animals, or flowers. It cannot be a boring blank photo but it has to be interesting, you must atleast take 70 or more pictures... then edit and post on flickr.

I went to hear some music tonight and the group was fairly new. When their gig was over I heard them talking about their long hours of practice and how they are just starting to work well together (I thought they did more than fine). Of course I thought of their dedication to their art....
Year ago, someone proposed a challenge: Shoot the year 2020 with one camera and one roll of film. These are my results, and I'm posting everything—including the failures!
The pandemic is visible in the absence of crowds, hoarding groceries, making sausages at home, in empty malls and meeting friends in video calls.
Looking back, I wish my shooting had been somehow magically coherent, but this kind of random shooting works against it. Also, I hadn't made up my mind whether I would focus on annual cycle, zeitgeist & phenomena or a personal chronicle. As a result it is a bit of each.
In August my Chinon got stuck so badly I had to switch cameras in middle-roll. Hence there's a picture missing from December. Also April is two photos only, but there I just lost count.
This was a fun project!
For me summer is the ability to sit outside in a garden without getting cold. This isn't my garden

As you may know, my stream is composed of only portraits. I try to keep it relatively 'balanced' concerning: ethnicity, age, sex and other variables.
I must admit I, often, find it challenging to balance it on the female-male axis, as I have much less interesting men photos.
:-(
Is it because I am a male?
Do you encounter a similar challenge?

This week will start the Jewish month of ADAR. The phrase says: "When ADAR starts, produce a lot of happiness". In the middle of the month takes place PURIM: the feast of disguises. Children and photographers, all together are anxiously waiting to the feast. :-)

52 Frames challenge this week is masculinity. I am not good at on demand, themed challenges. I think they are fun but I stress over them way too much!
Here is my take. Help me pick?
Out to look for sunsets, we came across a pair of swans with two cygnets instead. The sunset was forgotten as it cast a lovely warm light on the parents. Their white plumage, however, made it a bit of a struggle to photograph as I either blew out the highlights or put them in the shadows. Spot metering helped but did make the background darker then it actually was.
We were disappointed to see only two babies. Despite the intimidating size of Mom and Dad, I imagine predation from bigger fish, raccoons, birds, and even snapping turtles all combine to make survival a challenge.

Wakering Photography Group Vintage Printed Challenge.
Military Odyssey Show Maidstone Kent.
This show of Military Odyssey celebrates it’s 17th year, with groups covering a vast period of global history.
This was an ideal opportunity to capture some vintage images for our groups October printed challenge.
The Matchless G3L Motorcycle was developed for use by the British Army :-
Engine - 349cc Air Cooled Single.
Production 1939 - 46.
Power 16 BHP at 5200 rpm.
In 1940, 110 Matchless G3/L's were ordered from England by the South African Army as the preferred machine for use by Despatch Riders.
As well as general army transport G3/L's were widely used for delivering messages that were too important to be sent by radio or by telephone.
They were also used for convoy escort, having to read maps and act as an “Advance Party" into occupied territory.
Dispatch riders were an easy target for snipers, they had to use dimmed headlights and coped with poor road conditions.
In a Second World War study, Sir Hugh Cairns identified head injuries as a major cause of loss of life among dispatch riders and recommended crash helmets instead of the standard “tin helmet" or forage caps that were often worn.
Sir Hugh's recommendation eventually led to compulsory crash helmets for motorcyclists – but not for another 32 years.
This Motorcycle was also used by the Civil Defence Agencies.
