One of the things that interested me the most. The ceiling is beautifully painted with stories from Mahabharat and Ramayan. Most of the fresco's are ruined. This is one of the clear ones. The beauty of line, form, grace, costumes and movement is fascinating.

To quote a website: "The frescos that cover the entire space are reputed to be the most important specimens of Vijaynagar pictorial art. Painstakingly done, these narrate events from the life of the patrons of this temple as well as episodes from the Mahabharatha and Ramayana."

The main panel of the magnificent ceiling of the Franciscan Church of St. Francis of Assisi, in Valletta, Malta. The church was completed in 1607, but rebuilt in 1681, by order of Grand Master Gregorio Carafa, after structural defects were discovered.

The mausoleum had so many unadorned long hallways with low ceilings and crypts on both sides and some that were 2, 3 or 4 stories tall with grand decor such as this one. I was quite surprised at the mausoleum's beauty because the cemetery grounds were unremarkable except for one huge 20x50 foot religious mosaic. Forest Lawn Mausoluem, Long Beach, CA USA

I thought that the light unit and the structural elements of this ceiling offered interesting compositional possibilities.

This photo shot with a vintage Pentax K1000 from the mid 1970's on 35mm film. Film offers a look that I just love and which digital can only really approximate, in my opinion.

A view of the ceiling at the Crossness Pumping station in South London. This central feature has some beautiful decorative iron work. The station is currently being slowly restored to its former glory and it is open to the public a few times a year.

It's well worth a visit if you can put up with the smell of the nearby sewage works.

This house has been converted into a showroom and sales area for Tunisian rugs, many of extremely high quality. The house has an elaborately carved ceiling with a chandelier. I stood directly under the chandelier for this photo, so that you can see the chandelier and the roof above it. I very much like the symmetry in this photo.

Another shot from my recent visit to the world famous Maulbronn Monastery.

beautiful vaulted ceiling in york minster...i won't forget visiting york...i used a carpark that had a height restriction of 6' 9"...i figured my van would just scrape in under that...wrong...i forgot about the whirly ventilator thing i have - correction, had - on top of the van...it's just a circular hole now...i'm getting mandy to make a little stained glass panel to fit into it...

I also painted the ceiling Breath of Fresh Air by Benjamin Moore. I used the sample quart for when I was picking outside colors. We actually went a touch darker than this color outside. I thought it was kind of bright but now that everything's in place it looks alright. I also love the star light that used to glow beige but now glows a purply color.
