I was searching through my archives of a photo of something that glowed. I knew I had one, but I really wanted something new.
Which is when I looked up from the computer screen and straight at the radio, which was on and glowing.

Sony D-NE710 ATRAC3/MP3 CD Walkman Portable Disc Player
Just can't throw it away. Still works. Found a CD in it I hadn't played in 10 years. Already had the songs loaded in my mini iPod. Someone has one of these on eBay, brand new, still in an unopened package. Asking price $999.99 😄
Bummed Out City (Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros) :
1.Let me introduce you to my CD player, a bit old actually but totally in love with it. If you look hard enough you will see that the button for the track number nine has been pushed so many times that is under the standar level. This happens for a particular reason: usually my favourite track in almost any album is the number nine, and is the first one I always listen to when I just get a record. So, just as I promised I will be doing the “soundtrack for my life” set I have been doing an album with only nine tracks on it, and of course this song will be featured there.
2. As for this song, well, I love all Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros’ albums, they are an interesting collectionsof varieties and rhythms, and the good vibes on the songs are just amazing, if one depressive Sunday morning you listen to Johnny Appleseed you will know what I mean… Anyway, this song reminds me of all feelings cities could condense. I am a city person and I love both the way a city seems to take a life and all the little, annoying, funny, sad, happy, weird and different expressions "citizens" tend to have, they always amaze me.

1. Mi cd player, con el boton del track nueve totalmente hundido. Generalmente si no es siempre mis canciones favoritas son las numero nueve. Me he prometido a mi misma que hare un disco con solo canciones numero nueve incluidas en el.
2. Soy una fan de Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros, las letras son sencillamente encantadoras y las canciones se convierten en un viaje por muchos ritmos y sensaciones, lo mejor es que no lo ponen a uno triste, sino que tienen muy buena vibra. Esta cancion es sobre las ciudades, sitios aquellos que contienen una belleza exuberante, donde a uno le sacan la piedra, lo hacen reir, le roban, aprende y ve cada caso.

Back when I used to have a Chevrolet Corsica, and I couldn't afford an installed CD player. Ah, yes, the days when I had a moderately good anti-skip portable CD player, all the wires strewn everywhere, and a booklet full of music I would fumble with as I drove down the highway!

I really like the bird cage & bird. The top of the cage is removable so you can put the bird on it's perch. I also like the plant & the mister, but the CD player & CD seem dated to me, I don't know why they included one. The magazine rack seems a little too big, I don't know if the roller thing is for painting or removing lint, & the rug beater has been done before.
This guy is from 'Riverdance' - oh, he has apparently done a lot of acting in various things too (not sure what, but I am going to find out!).
I asked him if he would mind if I took photographs at a recent tap workshop held at my Mum's tap group. He couldn't have been nicer and was very relaxed about the whole thing. I loved the way he listened to the music and tapped before trying the routine out on the group. It was a facinating experience...

“He won’t catch me Bertie, he has gone out for a walk so I thought I’d check out his latest fascination.”
“What is it like Sky? Boring as always I would guess.”
“No, actually Posh this is very good. I know, I can’t quite believe it either but this time he has actually got something worth listening to.”
“Really Sky? It is usually that boring music with no singing and that makes me fall asleep.” Said Bertie.
“I think that this time it is all going to be singing Bertie.”
“What does the title say Posh?” Asked Bertie.
“I’m not sure, they have scribbled it and not written it properly.”
“It is called “Believe” by an all Irish hooman lady group called Celtic Woman.” Announced Sky proudly.
“How do you know that Sky, you can’t read.” Said Posh feeling a bit upstaged by the young Sky.
“I heard him telling someone yesterday when it arrived and remembered it, as you do.”
“Well, yes of course, I wasn’t about then so I wouldn’t know.”
“Posh, do you remember that group of hoomans he had singing on that picture machine yesterday, well these sound like the very same hoomans.” Said Sky tapping his paws to the beat of the music.
“Yes, I do remember and thinking to myself he must have made a mistake for they were very good. So, Sky, how did you work out how to use his machine thing?”
“I watched him use it so I knew where these things went.” He said pointing to the earphones.
“Right, but you still had to get it to make a noise, Sky.”
“That’s the easy part Bertie, you just jump up and down on it until it works. I was a bit tired after eating my dinner so I got Hope and Faith to do that for me.”
Posh wriggled a little bit feeling he would like to at least hear what it was all about.
“Sky, can I borrow that ear thing, so I can listen please?” He asked.
“Sshhh, I am trying to listen Posh. If you would like to go and fetch a jar or two of your finest, I’ll let you listen after me.”
“That is bribery Sky.” He said angrily.
“No Posh, just payment in kind. Now if you will excuse me please.” Said Sky closing his eyes and relaxing to the sounds of the CD player.
NB: I first heard Celtic Woman on You Tube and found their music beautiful and very enjoyable. If you take a listen I hope you too enjoy. :-)

其實這台1995年製的 JVC CD唱盤，是從老爸那邊接收過來的，因為中頻較淡與高低頻的延伸跟解析力較差，所以一直擺在書房的角落。直到前一陣子整理書房，又想再擺一套音響時才又浮出檯面。
重新更換橡皮帶，雷射頭細部清潔與功率調整，這台唱盤居然又活起來了，想一想乾脆來調調音吧！從此陷入兩個多禮拜的『換零件』→『Run機』→『聲音比較』的無限輪迴裡...
JVC XL-V284是用松下的MN35502 1 bit DAC，調音的目標是厚聲，人聲亮度，高低頻的延伸與解析力，對比機是 ADCOM GCD-575飛利浦的TDA1541A DAC。改到今天為止音色走向已經很相近，不過ADCOM的高低頻解析能力略勝。
零件聽感記錄
電阻→原廠機電阻高頻凸出，DAC周邊電阻大多換成Philips 0.6w電阻，換取較平衡的音域。
電容
ROE→聲音中性偏暖，解析力高，音場開闊，人聲非常甜美。
Philips BC036→音色細膩，高頻會牽絲，但低頻稍鬆散。
Rubycon CEW→原廠機使用，音色細膩，但中頻稍淡。
Panasonic FM→解析力很高，適合用在數位部份。
NCC KZJ→音色中性，Run開後高頻細膩。
NCC KY→低頻飽滿有Punch感，但超過220u就會過量而糊掉了。
Sanyo固態電容→音域平均，但聲音乾硬，所以不使用。

在這期間也順便幫親戚整理一台老CD唱盤，因為是用Sony的CD Servo晶片，有些VR的調整方式也許將來我的ADCOM也用的上。
F.Bias→Focus bias，調校光頭聚焦。在CD播放時邊調VR邊仔細聽高頻聲音在 “最細膩” 的時候。亦可用類比示波器，調整至波形擺盪最細微時即可，可惜我的是數位的看不出來...
TG→調校tracking gain。沒調過。
FG→調校focus gain，這會影響CD播放時跳曲問題。在CD播放時逆時針調VR到雜音出現，再往回調1到2點鐘的位置。
T.Bal→ 調校 tracking balance，這會影響CD播放時跳曲問題。 先將VR調在中間位置，再調看什麼位置能讓"跳下一首歌曲"時能最快正確的找到歌曲，原版CD與燒錄CD都要測試。
============== 2018.01.23 更新 =================
Head Amp 雖然屬於高頻回路，但其波形仍為類比訊號。
原先IC的濾波電容用 Panasonic FM，雖然解析度有提升，但在聽感上總覺得較為生硬，這幾天試著換上 Philips BC 013 電容，整個聽感大為改觀，人聲部份變得柔美且更有情感。
My iPod now provides my musical entertainment while the old Sony Walkman collects dust on the shelf - can't bring myself to toss it though, and I still have plenty of CD's to play if I should ever have a fit of nostalgia...
