In Greek mythology, Cassandra was the daughter of King Priam and Queen Hecuba of Troy. Her beauty caused Apollo to grant her the gift of prophecy. However, when she did not return his love, Apollo placed a curse on her so that no one would ever believe her predictions.

This photo was taken at Humayun's tomb, Delhi, INDIA.
The tomb of Humayun, second Mughal Emperor of India, was built by his widow, Biga Begum (Hajji Begum), in 1569-70, 14 years after his death, at a cost of 1.5 million rupees. The architect was Mirak Mirza Ghiyath. It was later used for the burial of various members of the ruling family and contains some 150 graves. It has aptly been described as the necropolis of the Mughal dynasty.
An early August morning provided both clouds and sky color to enhance the hoodoos of Bryce Canyon National Park.
Bryce Canyon is located in the state of Utah and is relatively close to Zion National Park. It was designated a national park during 1928. At 56 square miles, is smaller than many other parks, but is a gem with its countless colorful hoodoos. Its elevation is somewhat high ranging from 6,600 ft to 9,100 feet which causes it to have a cool climate. It was a refreshing mid-50s F the August morning we took this photo.

There goes my heart beating
Cause you are the reason
I'm losing my sleep
Please come back now
There goes my mind racing
And you are the reason
That I'm still breathing
I'm hopeless now
I'd climb every mountain
And swim every ocean
Just to be with you
And fix what I've broken
Oh, ‘cause I need you to see
That you are the reason
There goes my hands shaking
Cause you are the reason
My heart keeps bleeding
And I need you now
If I could turn back the clock
I'd make sure the light defeated the dark
I'd spend every hour, of every day
Keeping you safe
I'd climb every mountain
And swim every ocean
Just to be with you
And fix what I've broken
Oh, ‘cause I need you to see
That you are the reason
You are the reason
Yeah, yeah...
I'd climb every mountain
And swim every ocean
Just to be with you
And fix what I've broken
Oh, ‘cause I need you to see
That you are the reason..."
Don't Give Up - Peter Gabriel et Kate Bush
in this proud land we grew up strong
we were wanted all along
I was taught to fight, taught to win
I never thought I could fail
no fight left or so it seems
I am a man whose dreams have all deserted
I've changed my face, I've changed my name
but no one wants you when you lose
don't give up
'cos you have friends
don't give up
you're not beaten yet
don't give up
I know you can make it good
though I saw it all around
never thought I could be affected
thought that we'd be the last to go
it is so strange the way things turn
drove the night toward my home
the place that I was born, on the lakeside
as daylight broke, I saw the earth
the trees had burned down to the ground
don't give up
you still have us
don't give up
we don't need much of anything
don't give up
'cause somewhere there's a place
where we belong
rest your head
you worry too much
it's going to be alright
when times get rough
you can fall back on us
don't give up
please don't give up
'got to walk out of here
I can't take anymore
going to stand on that bridge
keep my eyes down below
whatever may come
and whatever may go
that river's flowing
that river's flowing
moved on to another town
tried hard to settle down
for every job, so many men
so many men no-one needs
don't give up
'cause you have friends
don't give up
you're not the only one
don't give up
no reason to be ashamed
don't give up
you still have us
don't give up now
we're proud of who you are
don't give up
you know it's never been easy
don't give up
'cause I believe there's the a place
there's a place where we belong
The dawn view from Lambert's Castle (National Trust), Dorset acrosss the Marshwood Vale. With temperatures dropping below zero and clear nights the conditions were perfect for a carpet of fog as the the sun came up. The golden yellow colour being caused by the rising sun.
Shed a tear 'cause I'm missin' you
I'm still alright to smile
Girl, I think about you every day now
Was a time when I wasn't sure
But you set my mind at ease
There is no doubt you're in my heart now
Said "woman take it slow, and it'll work itself out fine"
All we need is just a little patience
Said "sugar make it slow and we'll come together fine"
All we need is just a little patience (Patience)
Mm, yeah
I sit here on the stairs
'Cause I'd rather be alone
If I can't have you right now, I'll wait dear
Sometimes I get so tense but I can't speed up the time
But you know love there's one more thing to consider
Said "woman take it slow and things will be just fine"
You and I'll just use a little patience
Said "sugar take the time 'cause the lights are shining bright"
You and I've got what it takes to make it
We won't fake it, I'll never break it
'Cause I can't take it
Little patience, mm yeah, mm yeah
Need a little patience, yeah
Just a little patience, yeah
Some more patience, yeah (I've been walking the streets at night)
Just trying to get it right (A little patience, yeah)
It's hard to see with so many around
You know I don't like being stuck in the crowd (Could use some patience, yeah)
And the streets don't change but maybe the names
I ain't got time for the game 'cause I need you (Gotta have more patience, yeah)
Yeah, yeah, yeah but I need you (All need more patience)
Oh, I need you (All need some patience)
Oh, I need you (Just a little patience)
Ooh this time (Is all you need)
And so Tuor beheld a vision of Gondolin, once so beautiful and fair, now broken and covered in red hot flames and thick black smoke.
~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~
They told me not to build all of Gondolin, so I had to scale down and just do the King's Square, with the images of the two trees upon King Turgon's Tower, which fell and caused his own death.
Ecthelion also, of the Fountain, faces Gothmog, Lord of Balrogs, with the spike upon his helmet. From the battle, Tuor the messenger of Ulmo, with his young child Eärendil, the hope of Elves and Men, just barely escapes. But that is for another time.
I’ve wanted to do a minifigure battle for so long. I felt like finally I had enough figs! I figured out I was wrong, but still, I did put a lot of figures into this… and that consumed more time than you would expect! And finally, this is the second full castle that I've ever made. Yes, it's the first full minifigure scale castle or keep that I've ever made! It was an immense endeavour, especially for just a couple weeks.
This is my entry to the Finale of MELO, which I am honoured to be able to compete in! I attempted to recreate each scene from a different book throughout the competition, thus this one is meant to be derived from the recent book, The Fall of Gondolin. I tried my best to make this version of the Palace of Gondolin resemble fair Tirion Upon Tuna, from the Undying Lands, as well as to capture the horrible moment of it's fearful betrayal and fall, while the last of the Greatest Noldor fought bravely and desperately to the last. I hope you like it! To God be all the Glory!
cause I know that you feel me somehow
you're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be
and I don't wanna go home right now
The osprey is piscivorous (fish eating), with fish making up 99% of its diet.
Ospreys have vision that is well adapted to detecting underwater objects from the air.
They catch fish by diving into a body of water, oftentimes completely submerging their entire bodies. As an osprey dives it adjusts the angle of its flight to account for the distortion of the fish's image caused by refraction.
Causing harm or destruction, especially with supernatural powers. Well thats the meaning from the Oxford but I just think it looks like the Angelina Jolie character wowing her audience with a blast of magic.
I looked above the other day, Cause I think I'm good and ready for a change.
I live my life by the moon, By the moon.
If it's high play it low, if it's harvest go slow and if it's full, then go
But after midnight morning will come, and the day will see if you're gonna get some.

At Porpoise Bay, the rock shelf at low tide has these rocks visible. Does anyone know what causes these? Geology always interests me.

If I had it my way
This would be the first time that I made love
And I would be the first girl that your hands touched
But we've both done our share of living
Taking chances we've been given
I've never been too big on looking back
I don't care if I'm your first love
But I'd love to be your last
If I could do it over
I'd have waited for this moment
So I could give my heart to you unbroken
But if our mistakes brought us together
Does it really matter whether
We were saints or sinners in the past?
I don't care if I'm your first love
But I'd love to be your last
All I know is what I see when I look at you
And all I see is what I'm feeling down inside
And all I'm feeling is this feeling
That I've finally got it right
Ooh-ooh
When I wake up tomorrow
I'm gonna wrap my arms around you
Thank my lucky stars I've found you
'Cause I know your heart has so much more than
Anyone has touched before and
Nothing matters more to me than that
I don't care if I'm your first love
But I'd love to be your last
I don't care if I'm your first love
But I'd love to be your last
Cause, nothing compares to what we share.
I don't have a care in the world.
Cause even if it all came crashing down,
As long as you're around,
I'll be safe, yeah safe and sound.
Safe and Sound.

The swollen river Orchy causes multiple rivulets to cascade down before joining again in the main torrent hurtling down the hillside at the waterfalls known as the Eas Urchaidh.
velcro!
One day, George de Mestral, a Swiss engineer, was out with his dog in the Alps. The seeds of a certain type of thistle-like plant kept sticking to the dog's fur as well as his own clothes. He took the burdock seeds home and examined them. He discovered that the ends of the spikes were each actually a tiny hook which caused the burr to cling to everything. In 1941 George came out with his invention, velcro. The word "velcro" is a combination of the French words velours + crochet, meaning velvet hook. One side of a velcro strip is only hooks, the other loops. Ah, mother nature insipired again.
While tramping around the Vienna Woods, Leonardo brushed up against some burdock, his jacket was the perfect backdrop for this shot. (If you look closely you can see the hooks on the ends)

SOMETIMES IT'S BETTER NOT TO BE BORN
The cavolaia is an insect that is part of the lepidoptera family, we can see it fluttering in the adult stage as a butterfly, but what worries the grower is the caterpillar, relentless devourer of cabbage plants.
In fact, this insect is feared in agriculture because it lays its eggs on the leaves of the cabbage and in general of the various cruciferous plants, particularly voracious larvae emerge from the eggs, which quickly damage the vegetables, tearing the leaves apart.
The larvae feeding on the leaves nibble on the cabbage, tearing and dirtying the vegetable, also causing rot. When the eggs give birth to numerous caterpillars, the destructive action can also be rapid and totally affect the harvest of the affected plants.
Adult butterflies, on the other hand, do not cause any direct damage even if obviously by laying eggs they are the cause of the problem and for this reason it is correct to fight them with dedicated treatments.

These lads were causing quite a dilemma for those of us on the towpath as the only way around them was a longer walk or a swim. Completely unperturbed they were quite happy and not for moving. In the end I squeezed past the back end of that one straddling the path, hoping he wouldn't choose that moment to raise his tail.
According to the news this is not a sight that will be seen again.
Apparently they cost the council about £10,000 a year in rescue fees as between 2 to 4 of them fall in the river during the grazing season and various rescue teams have to be on 24 hour alert to hoist them back onto dry land. A right palaver I should imagine.
So earlier in the week it was announced that the cattle have been fitted with electronic collars and invisible sensors placed along the river bank.
If the cattle stray too close to the path or water the collars start making an increasingly high pitched bleeping noise which if ignored then gives its owner a mild electric shock. It seems they quickly learn the drill and stay away.
I was going to save this image to use later in my shots of my walk back from Grantchester back into Cambridge (the pinnicles of King's College Chapel just visible in the distance) but as it's in the news I might as well use it now.
I feel privileged to have seen this view, it looks like they will be staying on the meadows from now on!

I loved this too much not to upload. And you have to see this in the flickr-lightbox thingy.
I have no idea if this chap is riding a bike like this because of the condition of his legs or whether the bike was responsible for the condition of his legs.

I'm sorry to post and run but my boy and I are ill and I may have to take him to his doctor. =( I'll catch up as soon as I can. Happy Friday, everyone.
I dedicate this to all Grandmas and Grandpas
Unfortunately, my grandparents, from mom and dad, both sides, passed away before I was born. It's strange, they've been gone so long. At least, oh I don't even know how it feels to have them in my life, and ..........i.............just miss having them around. I believe grandparents are the most precious kind of antiques. They make our lives a little softer, a little kinder and a little warmer. Grandparents, are surely named right. Cause grandparents are a GRAND delight.
My point was that some people take their grandparents for granted. be thankful that you can call them or talk to them whenever you want. A grandparent's love is purer and cleaner and easier than a parent's. You share their genes, though you are not torn from their body. They deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. We should share a precious bond with them. This is one relationship where there are no pressures to perform, no expectations to fulfill. There is only warmth and love and sharing.
Since I only have this one photo of the woodpecker from the front, I decided to post it despite its visible flaws. I therefore ask for your indulgence that the focus is not perfect and for the blurring on the left edge of the image, which is caused by the window frame, which was captured out of focus at the edge by the lens.
This is a portrait of a Sagra longicollis, a beetle belonging to the family Chrysomelidae. All the insects belonging to the genus Sagra are characterized by a metallic livery with shades of red, yellow, green, purple, pink and blue which vary according to the sun's rays. The species are commonly referred to as frog-legged beetles or kangaroo bettles, cause of their last pair of legs, much bigger than the others. This photo is a stacking of 50 exposures, taken using an automatic focus stacking rail in my macro studio. I used a microscope 4x plan achromatic infinity lens with raynox dcr 150 lens on extension tubes
Yardang - a rock ridge feature caused by wind and water erosion.
I stumbled upon this venturing out in the middle of White Sands New Mexico with my camera in one hand and a GPS in another. This area is a truly amazing place. This formation stood about 3 1/2 feet tall.
